draging an image from internet to XYplorer issue

Post by Ysl »

Hello !

I have a folder open in a tab in XYPlorer and I drag a photo from an internet site to it...

With IE7 all is ok
With Firefox, the image is put in the folder but with a 0.0K lenght !!!

Of course, I use all the time Firefox....

I don't know where is the incompability FF2.0 or XY ?
I looked in "all" the setting of the 2 programs but did not found any help..

Any idea ?

Thanks for your help

Works well here under FF2.0 portable. (I don't have the other FF2.0) Hm. :?

The image is stored temporarily by FF in the user's tmp path, which in my (German) case is for example:
C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Donald\Lokale Einstellungen\Temp\fox1.gif

(In english sth like:
C:\DOCUMENT AND SETTINGS\USER NAME\... TEMP)

and from there it is fetched by XYplorer and copied to the target.

Thanks but that doesn't seem to help me much...

What is strange is that I can drag and drop without any problems from FF2 to Windows Explorer....

Maybe it is because of an extension added to FF but why then does is work with WE ?

Thanks again

Just installed FF2.0. Works perfectly. The problem must be somewhere on your side...

I'm right there with ya, Ysl. I get a 0-byte file, too, when I drag an image from FF 2.0 to XYplorer. IE7 works fine.

I'm normally not a drag-n-drop'er but, to add my results to above, just tried doing it on a JPG from FF2.0.0.2 to XY 5.80.14 and it worked just fine...
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Since FF needs to write a file to the user's temp folder (from which XY then fetches the file), could there be a relation to user rights? I for my part enjoy admin rights.

FYI: On my system, I'm running as a normal user, as I only use Administrator when I need to, such as doing Windows Updates...I'll use the "Run As" for most installs, but 99.9% of time, I'm defined just as a user.

Further testing, and I can sometimes get a zero length file.
It appears to be triggered by having the FireFox and XY windows overlapping. Once a zero file has been saved then moving the windows so they do not overlap still produces a zero file from the same image. Changing to a different image the size is then usually correct, but sometimes is still zero. Doesn't really make sense to me but might give a clue to Donald.

Yes, now the case is clearer! :) XYplorer needs to be the foreground window to get it right. So you have to drag onto the XY icon in the taskbar to have it move to the foreground before dropping the load.
I'll later (after CKS) look for a programmatic way to solve this.

Indeed, XYplorer is always set "always on top" of FF2 here and it work when the 2 are not overlapping !!

I would never had found that by myself !!

Thanks to all for trying and testing !!

Wow nice catch fellas! I have FF on the primary monitor and XY on the secondary, so when I drag from FF to XY, XY never becomes the foreground window. If I bring XY over to the primary monitor and drag onto XY's taskbar icon, then into XY it works.

I use a program called UltraMon, which adds a taskbar to the secondary monitor, and when I drag onto XY's taskbar icon on the secondary taskbar XY becomes the focused window, but then dropping into XY still produces a 0-byte file. Very strange. It doesn't matter though, 'cause Don will fix it!
