Layout How to?

Post by admsupport »

Address bar
(under)
Tool bar (eventually an additional tool bar/a toolbar on two rows)
(under)
Tabs

How I do that? on the layout menu I see only 4 options and either the toolbar eats the tabs space, either the address bar space.

Not possible because the toolbar has a fixed size by nature. So depending on your window and toolbar width you would either see grey or have buttons beyond the window borders. I did not like any of these.

With all the new features in XY, my toolbar is getting so large that my addr bar is so small as to be almost of no use...now, being on a laptop, my screen is limited in size, so a bigger screen isn't an option...thus...personally, I'd be quite willing to give up some vertical tree/list size to gain a second optional toolbar row...in IE, I have the std IE TB and under it, Google TB, and it works just fine.

Since as I recall, there was no way to make a combo menu and AB (unlike IE) so if I could have an overflow/2nd TB row, then I could regain an AB that would be usable....I also like my tabs on separate row, so that's how I have it config'd.

Is that something that could be possible? This could be done via a config setting that says "2 rows of toolbar" and then a marker (similar to separator) that would define where the line split would occur...yes, this might result in some unused gray space, but I really hate having to choose only a subset of the desired TB icons in order to have even a AB of about 1 1/2 inches.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

If not possible, how about having a a custom TB button which acts as a switch for swapping the current TB buttons with an alternative set - this would allow the most used to be as set 1 and others as set 2.

I second that :!:

@admi
Any solution that offers the possiblity to have a second, or one exented tool bar. Is the toolbar button acting as a switch already implemented in the latest XY build or is to come?

I had thought about that as well. Another way would be a button that temporarily pops a 2ndary toolbar that vanishes in the moment you press any of its buttons -- acting just like a menu.

Some sort of solution will have to come, especially since I will add optional larger buttons (probably even in form of individual ICO files -- so you can design your own) in the future.

The general problem is that screen space will always be to small. And the eternal solution: Keyboard shortcuts!

:P Not a good solution for us mouse folks! If I am willing to give up approx 3/8" of vertical space for a second line of TB icons, why shouldn't I (and others) be able to? Other pgms I use have more than one row of icons...losing a couple of lines of detail/tree would be a fair trade, and since it would be user controlled, those who don't want it wouldn't be subject to it.

Yes, probably. I'll think about it.

My opinion: no swapping! I think you had a primary (most used) and a secondary set then - and after using the secondary you probably will need the pri again - and in most cases have to swap a second time.
So I'd prefer a temp popup for the second set - after usage the first (= primary) is available again.

...or the ability to use 2 or more lines, for those using the 2nd set very often.
