Is there a reason why the column that has line numbers doesn't have its width auto-adjusted even though such feature is enabled?
Yeah, some people might moan about whether a dozen pixels makes that big a deal and my answer to those would be: no, but it's a matter of principle. Why does the line numbers column get treated differently and are there any other types of columns that don't get auto-resized?

There was at least one prior thread on this topic: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?t=1007
This col is unique in that it's more of a system/control col than file data, and it's width is based on nbr of digits user has specified.

I know but it means you need to predict the max number of files/folders you'll have in a folder, right? If you set it to 3 and have over one thousand files/folders then first digit from the left would get cut off, right?serendipity wrote:Auto-resize not necessary since there is:

Then why choose 3? Choose 8.ivan wrote:I know but it means you need to predict the max number of files/folders you'll have in a folder, right? This would make the column extra wide and that's a waste of space. Better question: why not have "Autosize Columns" actually applicable to ALL types of columns? Or are we gonna argue that "Line Numbers" column isn't actually a column much like we did when it came to column headers and whether the box in which headers are fall under the definition of a column's cell?serendipity wrote:Then why choose 3? I have mine set to 4 and so far, it's been a good value as I've not found any folders with more than that, plus I don't mind having it as fixed width of that size since I don't have other cols as auto-size either.

Well you can't pick which columns to autosize and which ones not to. I'm just determined that if it says "Autosize Columns" then it actually applies to all columns, I really don't see any logic in discriminating depending on the column's contentj_c_hallgren wrote:I have mine set to 4 and so far, it's been a good value as I've not found any folders with more than that, plus I don't mind having it as fixed width of that size since I don't have other cols as auto-size either.

Then maybe it's possibly mislabeled slightly..."Autosize data columns" might better describe it then, since line nbr is not a file data attribute while the others are.ivan wrote:Well you can't pick which columns to autosize and which ones not to. Maybe...but I rather it wasn't and the columns auto-resized according to width of their content and not the nature of itj_c_hallgren wrote:Then maybe it's possibly mislabeled slightly..."Autosize data columns" might better describe it then, since line nbr is not a file data attribute while the others are.
