How To Sort Shortcuts With Folders

Post by laugust »

I have a folder that contains 4 sub folders, plus 2 shortcuts to a 5th and 6th folder on another drive. When sorted alphabetically, the folders are grouped together, and the shortcuts appear together at the bottom of the list. Is there an option to sort shortcuts with the folders, instead of separately (see attached image)?

Apologies if this has been asked/answered before. I did a search but didn't find anything. I am legally blind though, so that could be why. 😉
TIA for any help!

Right-click on an empty area, choose “Sort by”, and uncheck “Sort folders apart”.

That is not where to configure it.
Open "View" from the menu bar > Sort by > uncheck "Sort folders apart"

EDIT: Correction

Hi, I have read a lot of your work, so I am asking: what do you mean?
That the approach is not clever or fundamentally wrong? I don't understand.

My mistake. When clicking on a blank area I failed to notice the context menu had "sort by" which indeed leads to "keep folders apart." I'll correct my post.

Not sure if the OP was satisfied with the replies, but here's mine: LNKs are files, there is currently no way to sort them as if they were folders.

Apologies for the tardy response.

Yes, ultimately, I guess I did want to know if shortcuts could be treated like folders - but only if they pointed to other folders. If they pointed to files, I would want them to sort with other files. Too bad this isn't possible.

Thanks to everyone else for their replies - your input was helpful and much appreciated.

Well it's not impossible, you could do it with a script, either via CEA, but I would recommend limiting it to certain folders, or you could achieve it on demand via like a button/hotkey etc
