Not here. I think. What do you mean by "flashes and jumps all over"?
Not in a bad way, but in a way that makes what I want to do impossible.
You see, when I look at an image that I want to compare with another, I have to concentrate on specific differences between them, so I look at a detail of the first and check how this detail is in the next/previous.
The way the hover box works is by closing the currently opened preview window and opening the next preview window, but at a position to the right of the previously opened window (if the next file is at the right of the currently previewed one).
Depending on the size of the image, you concentrate on something on an image, then it takes some milliseconds of seeing something else (the thumbnails of the images) and then you see the next image, but at a different position.
There is no way that you can compare small details like sharpness, colors, brightness, etc. like this..

I know this is not something most of the people will want, but I just thought it might be easy to implement, not with the hover box since it opens over the file and it's logical to do so, but with the MDBU that is opened at the middle of the screen (but has no way to look at the next file if it is under it).
Anyway, it's not a big deal, just a wish, thank you for your time you spend with it..πŸ™

I could do something a little crazy but probably useful: show the HB for list items always exactly over the tree, same position, same size for each hovered file.

But, isn't expected to open over the "hovering" mouse?

It's expected to open for the file the mouse is hovering, not at a particular position, though currently it's always positioned near that file, but (if possible) not directly under the mouse pointer.

jupe wrote: ↑10 Apr 2026 02:34 Alternatively you could make FP load on DblClick/middle click or similar too.
I couldn't find a place that could assign a combination to the mouse click (with a little search I did).
Is there a way to open FP with ctr+right click, or right double click, or something in that line of thought?

With the next beta and a large enough hover box and "Fixed-size image area" enabled, you can have a static hover box and easily walk through your pictures with arrow keys.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Wow! πŸŽ‰
But, isn't going to close an then re-open (flash) as before?

With the word flash, I mean the closing and re-opening of the window, with a brief look at the underline thumbnails, not an actual full white screen.
If you're fixing you eyes on a specific detail, that re-opening looks like a flash of something..

I know what you mean, but I don't see it here. The box is not hidden between two images. I note though that with the 64-bit version there is a slight irritation that you might call a flicker. It's nothing I can fix. twinBASIC is still in the making.

Oh!.. Then this is perfect!
I'll wait for the next beta to check it and report back.
Thank you..πŸ™

I must be missing something here..
Using the 28.30.0103, the Highlight Hovered Items is not needed any more..βœ”
When moving through images after the Hover Box opens the first time, it closes and re-opens as before..❌
The Hover Box opens relative to the thumbnail. The right thumbnail opens a window more to the right than the previous left thumbnail. I can't see any difference there, too..❌
I can't find any setting like the "Fixed-size image area" or something that will change this behavior.
Of course it's in front of my eyes, but I'll welcome a little help.. :maf:

Well, it almost work, but there are two problems.
1. The flashing still exists. The window closes and re-opens. It might be minimal with small files on NVMe, but with large files on normal HD it's more than noticeable, it's exactly the same as before.
2. The box stays at a fixed place most of the time but not always. If the box does not cover let's say the last three right-most thumbnails, when the mouse is at the 2nd from the right, it moves closer to the right, and when it goes to the last one, it moves more to the right..
