Auto-Run for Catalog Items?

Post by Garonne »

Hi Don,

not sure if this fits your plans for XYplorer, but did you ever think about adding timed auto-start options to Catalog Entries?

(Like: Monthly (by day(s) or weekday(s)), weekly (by weekday(s)), once a day (by time or first startup), hourly (at a specific time each hour))

It's not important, but I would enjoy to see something like that added.

@Garonne since XY has no any timer-functionality, i'd advice you to make some AHK script for that task. Yeap, you'll need to delve into that, but if it's really desired - that's the solution.

Nah. Just as I stated in my original question, I was just curious.

I've got PortableApps Launcher on my USB-Stick and it works quite well. And a different one to do daily or automatic starts of tools. But since development of the latter one has ceased, I was thinking if one of my preferred tools that gets fired up every time I use my stick (a.k.a. XYplorer) might be a possible substitution to replace said tool.

But since it's still running. I'm not in a hurry to find a replacement soon.

Thought I would play about to try and find a solution. Not sure it is exactly what you want but can be altered to work with programs.
schedule.zip
To make use unzip into scripts folder. Enter folder and you will find :-
_Timers.xys
Daily.xys
HOURLY.xys
minuteTimer.xys
monthly.xys
msg_beep.xys
weekly.xys
As you can see there is a minuteTimer.xys and a msg_beep.xys Extras.
The first (_Timers.xys) script links all others and can be placed in the Catalog or from a User Button.
Of Course you can place the individual scripts as necessary.
Only disappointment for me was I could not get ONSTART to work.
I am sure there must be a way round this problem.

I'm going to take a look at those, but it was basically a curiosity question.

XYplorer is my primary Explorer, especially when I'm carrying my "Important Tools"-USB-stick around. Right now, I'm starting a program on the stick that's opening a menu and all my tools run from there (some automatically). But this program hasn't seen updates in like forever, and documentation sucks, too. So I was hoping to remove that program and be able to use XY to do it.

But for now the tool is still working, so I'll live.
