Is it expected behaviour that dimensions are missing for avif thumbnails?

Not really. It depends on the available Property Handler. Over here I cannot even preview AVIF. Did you install anything to be able to do that?

Nirsoft shexview.exe can do that.

Do you see the dimensions in the Dimensions column in File Explorer?
