Does XYplorer depend on the Windows file copy API?

Post by MichelleDesslerFan1 »

Just thought I'd ask this because I'm considering upgrading my machine to Vista and I was hearing all these horror stories about the slow file copy operations in that new OS.

So...I think it would help if I know if XYplorer *depends* on that Windows file copy API code for its copy operations. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!

I don't have Vista, but just did a really quick search of older threads for this topic and found only this one that applied: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?t=1479
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Also, Vista SP1 is supposed to address these problems. If you want to know the nitty, gritty technical details, Mark Russinovich wrote an article on the internals of the file copying support in Vista SP1:

Adding to this article: XY uses the Shell engine ("Copy" and "Move" operations) and also the CopyFileEx API ("Backup" operations).
