File Pane Row Highlighting

Post by tim_crouse »

I have read the help file and experimented..... When I have XYPlorer Classic Selection Style enabled in the Highlight and Dark Mode settings
I cannot get the background of the last row in a selected group to stay highlighted (all the other selected row backgrounds remain highlighted).

When you initially select a group of files or directories, ALL the row backgrounds appear with the highlighted background color. When you move teh mouse off the group the last row selected background loses the background selection color. The last selected row's text continues to have the color of the defined selection text, for some reason, the last row loses its background color. I also toggled the settings in the TOOLS > Customize List > Highlight Row and Highlight Focus but these settings appear to have no effect.

Can someone explain how I can set up row highlighting such that:
-The Background Row is the color of the Windows Theme setting
-The Row Text Changes Color to the defined "Section Text" color
-The last Row of the selected group appears highlighted, and when I select the other tab the last row does not change the background shading to a lighter color than that of the other selected rows.

I have been experimenting with various effects of file pane row highlighting with the target goal of:
-Select multiple rows > Got that working

To have the last row of the selected group highlighted > works like this when:
Colors and Styles: Highlights & Dark Mode : Selections: is set toWindows Theme, if I try to use XYplorer classic the last row will not appear with a highlighted background, BUT the text color will change to the defined "Selection Text" color when XYPlorer Classic Style is enabled

-To have The Selected Row Text Color Change seems to only work when XYPlorer style is enabled.

Best Regards

You saying the last row (I assume you really mean focused item) isn't highlighted in XY Classic mode, but is in Windows Theme mode, seems opposite to my expectation, so it might be easier if you posted a screenshot, showing what you want, and what you currently see and in what selection mode each screenshot is taken in, (see attachments tab directly under posting window). Also confirm what version you are using.

I am using v25.40.0400

(2) images attached

The end goal is to get the last selected row background to appears as the selected rows above in the same selected group.

What you are seeing is a anomaly of your very light chosen color being dimmed, try putting in for example

BG: C6E6FF

You can disable the dimming of the focused item altogether though if you want, but you won't be able to see which item is focused in a selection, not sure why you don't just use Windows Theme mode though.

edit: fixed mistakes

The "E" was odd as I am pretty sure the value came from the color dialog. Anyways/.....

The tip you provided is a step fwd. How would I disable the focus dimming altogether? Curious to see what effect it will have.

On a side note TOOLS > CUSTOMIZE LIST > HIGHLIGHT FOCUSED ITEMS
TOOLS > CUSTOMIZE LIST > HIGHLIGHT SELECTED ROW

Appear to not affect the file pane selection coloring. What area of the UI are they supposed to affect?

Thanks for your help

Yes sorry about E, my mistake, I realized afterwards and had since rewrote my last post.

ListHighlightFocusedSelection=0

follow these instructions exactly on how to tweak: https://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=tweak

I'd suggest setting the below option to "Dotted" if you set that tweak:

Configuration | Colors and Styles | Highlights & Dark Mode | Focus rectangle

Those Customize List settings you mentioned you won't notice the effects of because you are using Full Row Select.

I edited the configuration file and noticed to see any real effect I had to toggle FULL ROW SELECTION OFF.

With it still enabled there was no difference.

Let me ask the question another way:

If I want the last selected row to have the same background color as the selected trows what value would I have to modifiy?

Thank You

Are you sure you followed the instructions exactly? because it sounds like you didn't.

Run this from the XY address bar to confirm it returns 0.

e getkey("ListHighlightFocusedSelection", "Settings");

Since making the config change, did you definitely restart XYplorer without saving changes? Because if you did, then I can't explain why you still see that behavior, what you should see instead is something like this:

It has always worked for me when that tweak is applied properly.

Ooops, Operator Error. Simply closed the app and restarted.

After I did it using the restart without save it worked.

Thank You For Your Help.
