Hover box decides to not work [resolved]
I'm experiencing an issue for the last few days with Hover Box. It always works when I start XYplorer, but after changing to a different folder by tab or any means, it stops working. I have no CEAs for changing locations or tab changes. I've disabled my AHK script and associated hotkeys. Nothing has made any difference. I initially thought it may have had something to do with v24.80.0013 where "Hover Box: Now you can force holding down CTRL to trigger..." But, I see no difference running v24.80.0012 or even v24.80. I'm not sure what's going on. MDBU on the same icons work fine. Is anyone experiencing a similar issue or any ideas on what may be causing it? Thanks.

Re: Hover box decides to not work
Hi Don, I'm still having issues with Hover box. Quite often now, when I start XYplorer for the first time after a cold boot in the morning, HB is not working. And for testing purposes I have disabled any programs which I think could potentially affect the situation before I start XYplorer.
When I visit Configuration > File Info Tips and Hover box and change a HB setting like activating on filename instead of icon or visa versa, when I return and try it works fine. But, as soon as I venture off and do just about anything including "save", it no longer works. As I mentioned above, I have no CEAs for changing locations or tab changes.
Would it be possible for you to take a look at my XYplorer.ini file to see if there's something obvious I'm missing or a conflict of some sort? Thanks.

Re: Hover box decides to not work
Yes, I had, and I just tried a fresh again a few minutes ago and it seems to work fine and more importantly stays working when I do other things and then come back. That's leading me to believe it's not an external source caused issue.

Re: Hover box decides to not work
They were both checked initially. I may have changed those settings to check out some comment or Q & A on the forum and not changed them back. I've been adjusting those settings (trying all the options). Still no success in Hover Box behavior. I disabled both of those and set my Info Tips & Hover Box settings as, Info Tips on filename and Hover Box on icon - no success.
Edit: I can get HB and Info Tips to work with various settings, but as soon as I go elsewhere (i.e., another folder), it stops working even when I return to the same initial folder. Very odd and frustrating. I don't know if it helps or not, but when I get a working configuration for HB and then do a save it also stops working.

Re: Hover box decides to not work
If the fresh version works, it must be in the config. Come on, you can do that...

Re: Hover box decides to not work
Yeah, it's a very odd thing. I get it to work properly with the settings I use, typically Hover Box on icon, File Info on filename (with shift). As soon as the mouse is moved away from the list panel it stops working. What's up with that? More digging!

Re: Hover box decides to not work
Don, I think I may have figured why my Hover Box and Info Tips have been causing me grief. I noticed in comparing to a fresh instance there was an "Initial delay in milliseconds" for Hover Box to appear (I think the default may have been 800). I had my delay value set to "0" which is allowed by the note tip - if you leave it blank an error appears and states, enter a value between 0 and 9999. I do want it quick to appear, so I put a value of "1" in the box and it looks like it's working properly even after moving around (i.e., other folders, tabs, etc.) in XYplorer though I have more testing to do.
I thought it was weird in my initial testing the other day that I would sometimes get a very minor flicker when the mouse went over a file icon, but nothing happened. So at least in my case there may be some issue with a "0" setting for an Info Tips and Hover Box delay. You may want to check your results with a "0" delay value. I had the delay set at "0" since day one of Hover Box and it worked, so something more recently may have affected the Hover Box delay when set to "0". Thanks for your time as always.

Re: Hover box decides to not work
Hi Don, thanks for the update, beta 24.90.0001.
On the topic of hovering instead of starting a new post. When we hover over the hamburger menu on the breadcrumb bar, are we supposed to see the actual menu itself? I ask because all I see is the word "Menu" that drops down. I have "Drop menu on hover" checked and my menu style is "Custom menu" and I have Drop down menu on Breadcrumb bar under select context in Hover Box Configuration. I do have the drop downs on the triangles or slashes so maybe that is all that was intended for the Breadcrumb bar. Thanks.

Re: Hover box decides to not work
No, "Drop menu on hover" only applies to the path component dropdowns, and only if they are not "Standard Menu" style.

Re: Hover box decides to not work
Is it expected behaviour that Show Hover Box only while the Shift key is held down doesn't apply to the tree? I have this option checked but the hover box always shows for the tree.
And what are we supposed to see in the hover box if it's set for font files? I thought it would be an example of the font but that's not what I get.
