Unable to custom Move from one folder- restart XY does nothing?
Using latest 24.70, did restart of XY, reelect seems to work elsewhere.
Any fix or am I the first to have this problem?

Where is the focus? Sure it is in the list?

Focus is the faint blue in line "16" I guess.
Do you not intend for the check mark in the small squares (that has always worked before??) to indicate what is being moved with #619 in XY. A selection set should not be a highlight only IMHO.
BTW Love just about everything about XY! How do get the good old XY icon to show consistently and everywhere? My eyesight is not what it used to be.

While we are at it – creating a selection set now seems to be limited more or less to about 10-15 items.
I would just love to have a “Robust selection tool” in XY with the following features:
50 + items selected by any available means such as using Swift or Ctrl to add or subtract to the set – that is backwards or forwards. (without XY getting confused)
There should also be a go-back and a go-forward option one step at a time etc.

There are those that would say just drag a file onto the ‘other screen’ etc. To me that would not have the “XY smartness” that we have come to expect. I do a lot of hand-selecting and/or sorting.

Hmm, now you mention #619. I cannot help you if you are not precise. When you run menu commands from a script, you are responsible for getting the focus right. In your case, set the focus to the list.

I get the impression that it is now becoming my fault that there are two or more errors in XY.
#619 move/copy is defined as per the attached picture.
Why pick on #619 when the same goes for Del and F2
Every square box with a checkmark and NO “focus=highlight” is an error. Correct?
A restart of XY is the only fix I know – that also uncheck any selected boxes. Is that correct?

It is not clear precisely what or when this error is created in XY – other than if a lot of file handling is done at the time and XY is getting sluggish.

With a bad selection set #619 tells you. F2 (rename) or Del tells you nothing when the circumstance is just as compelling. Both commands get lots of use in this context.
Hope the XY program and script expert(s) and create some peace and quiet.
A quick and perhaps dirty fix would seem to be – if the box is checked turn the highlight ON – without exception IMHO.

I still don't understand what you are doing. Are you trying to move files via Tools | List Management | Move/Copy/Backup To...??? This makes no sense. Use this instead: Edit | Move To... (Shift+F7).

No, that seems to be your misunderstanding!
List management does exactly what it says "Managing Lists" or logs of previous actions you performed,
however, it does NOT perform any Copy/Move or other operation.

How good of you to take the time and pointing out some flaws in my thinking. The tone in this NG can be very stoic or at times outright lugubrious – that is in the opinion of some who shall remain unnamed.
The facts were moving files to folders ‘fast:’
I used #619 which gets a short folder display ( I have forgotten how it works move vs copy I found icon I think?)
Don said all wrong use #220 that also gets a short folder display under Edit RESULT GOES TO THE SAME “To Screen” either way!

Looking at all the menus in the top left-hand corner I see a #151 under Files. I just love the full-length screen – unless it changes to a short folder display screen when we are not looking.posting.php?mode=reply&t=26474#

Those were all side issues to what in reality is – should a checkmark in the box result in a highlight of that file? Why does this not happen? THIS IS ALL PRE-MOVE, COPY, RENAME, OR WHATEVER COMES AFTER THAT Am I mistaken?posting.php?mode=reply&t=26474#

No, once again, it is not the same screen, let me try one more time:
You want to move some files from A to B, the selection of the files in folder A needs to happen before you select the destination B.
The checkbox selection can only be used to select the files in A, after that you either use #220 or #151 to select B for the destination.
The lists presented by these two commands vary slightly but basically do the same, you select B and the files are moved there.

What I have stated is that I attempt to select A but get the error screen. Boxes are checked but there is no highlight - B selection does not occur because the process ends with the error screen. Why do I fail to communicate this fact - so sorry?

B does not need to be a folder. It is just as likely to be rename or delete or have a date updated.

I have a two click fix - I think but since info seem so precious I will keep it to myself
