Folder View - Settings Not Preserved
Problem:
I tune up my folder view settings the way I like them,
set what I like as "Default Folder View" settings, individually different folders I save with the "F" toolbar button, etc.
Everything saves fine, restarting XYplorer (or the computer) is not a problem - settings are preserved.
But on the next day - a surprise: everything switched back to the old settings (the ones before I customized and saved).
This is not random, but very consistent, and the key element is "next day".
I am playing with this for 10 days now, it always happens "next day": every day I wake up with settings from 10 days ago.
Experimentation:
I tried everything, including "Manage Folder Views" - where I had "Auto-Save Changes" checked and unchecked, no difference.
Similarity:
Something similar happens when I upgrade my portable XYplorer to the next version:
the first time I launch the new version - the visuals (tabs, folder view) are not the last ones I saved - but the ones before that (old).
Maybe this similarity can give someone a clue ...
Any ideas ?

Re: Folder View - Settings Not Preserved
Do you use File -> Exit (Saving) to exit XYplorer? That'd be the first thing that jumps to my mind...

Re: Folder View - Settings Not Preserved
Thanks for Your quick response.
Well, I always close the XYplorer via the Close button (X) on the titlebar
which should be (I presume) the same as Menu -> File -> Exit,
as opposed to letting the Windows ShutDown forcefully close XYplorer without saving the settings.
In other words :
I always close all open programs (including XYplorer) before shutting down Windows.
Also remember :
The problem only occurs when the calender switches to the next day.
Any other form of closing & opening XYplorer does not reproduce my problem.

Tools > Configuration > Startup & Exit > Save settings on exit - Have this checked.
Do you maybe have some sort of backup/restore/sync task running on XYdata files?

Do the regular "visuals" when you run XY again, or do you have to set them up from scratch everytime (Something similar happens when I upgrade my portable XYplorer to the next version:

Re: Folder View - Settings Not Preserved
To answer Your 3 questions :
1. the "Tools > Configuration > Startup & Exit > Save settings on exit" is already CHECKED (& have always been enabled),
2. I have NO "backup/restore/sync tasks" running on XYdata files,
3. when upgrading, "regular visuals" re-occur when staring XYplorer the 2nd time - I think.
On the last item, I will have to pay more attention the next time (I am 90 % sure, but not 100 %),
but this is not such a big problem since I do not upgrade every day - it's the daily "mess-up" that bothers me.
I mentioned the upgrade just in case it could give You a clue about the 1st (main) problem.
Thanks !

Re: Folder View - Settings Not Preserved
OK, I found the answer to this puzzle.
The "culprit" (not really, but for this puzzle) was the preserved TabSet.
Saving a tab set saves not just the tabs (by name and sequence),
but - contrary to my expectations - also the folder view settings for each tab.
In order to preserve a folder view,
one has to not only save the folder view,
but also save it again as a tab set (with the new folder view settings),
and then the new folder view settings won't be suddenly disappearing on You.
Suggestion to developers :
maybe You can make the tab sets more editable - just like the folder views,
and with a few more options - like a check box to also save or not save the folder view.
Obviously, not a high priority, but it would prevent users like me
wondering why there folder view settings are suddenly disappearing.
Thanks !

Re: Folder View - Settings Not Preserved
uncheck Configuration > Styles > Remember list settings per tab, or manually uncheck it's children using the "Apply to" btn.

Oh, great !
The features I was wishing for (and suggesting) - are already there, but I missed them.
Sorry for that oversight.
Thank You very much.

Re: Folder View - Settings Not Preserved
Don't worry. You're not the first, and won't be the last one... Happened to me, too. Guess it happened to everyone at a time, since Don is adding new stuff all the time it sometimes feels difficult to keep track of it all (especially the stuff that get's added while you don't have the time to instantly experiment with it - and thus gets forgotten).stoik wrote:Oh, great !

Re: Folder View - Settings Not Preserved
Some of my directories stopped saving Folder View. It works on some, but some it does not.
I have always had the setting unchecked: Configuration > Styles > Remember list settings per tab
Any ideas?

You are going to need to elaborate, does the button depress, what does the tooltip say, have you got the correct settings marked in the Edit FVS dialog. etc.

Re: Folder View - Settings Not Preserved
Not sure what you mean, I've never seen a Tooltip popup.
View > Folder View Settings > Save Folder View #472
What are the correct settings marked in the Edit FVS dialog?
I'm not 100% positive on this, but it seems to always work, if it's a folder where I've never saved its view before.

Re: Folder View - Settings Not Preserved
What I am talking about is the toolbar btn tooltip/pressed state.
https://www.xyplorer.com/tour.php?page=fvs
https://www.xyplorer.com/release_7.50.php#fvs
If you just re-save an existing view, and previously you had unchecked settings in the Edit FVS dialog, the things you want to save may not be getting saved, so go to:
View | Folder View Settings | Edit...
in locations that aren't saving, and make sure sure the applied settings checkboxes match what you want to save.
