Need horizontal sorting of files!
Please add horizontal sorting of files [when no detailed info is shown] like in Windows Explorer! For thumbnails in this mode, add the file name directly under the thumbnail like in Windows Explorer. Having only veritcal sorting is very limiting to the number of files that can be displayed on screen at once, and forces the user scroll more than necessary. TrackerV3 needs to work on the ability to maximize the display space for files, which is already available in Windows Explorer. Thanks.

No. TrackerV3 is no Windows Explorer clone (= using the identical common controls that are part of the OS) like virtually all other file managers. Re: Need horizontal sorting of files!
Well, in Window Explorer, users can highlight a file and see its stats on the status bar. So most of the time it's not necessary to have all the stats take up a majority of the screen space, which can be used for listing many more files for file managment efficiency. In this case MS actually gives users a choice. How is TrackerV3 going to compete with other powerful tabbed file manangers such as Total Commander [ http://www.ghisler.com ], which have this additional file view/sorting option? The lack of this essential feature is one of the main reasons, I'm not currently using TrackerV3 [and I'm sure other potential users will feel the same]. I've only tried it and posted improvement requests.

Ok, but forget about horizontal sorting of files.TsunamiZ wrote:The main reason I want to use TrackerV3 is for the tabbing functionality, so I don't have many windows open.

LOL. But we want the tabbing while preserving the common functionality and choice prevalent in many file managers. Tabbing is meant to be an additional functionality, not a feature replacement. File sorting and management visibility comes first, and tabbing is secondary!admin wrote:Ok, but forget about horizontal sorting of files.TsunamiZ wrote:The main reason I want to use TrackerV3 is for the tabbing functionality, so I don't have many windows open.

Please don't change anything just for the sake of changing it. Things that don't follow this philosophy usually turns out worse than the original or horribly wrong. You don't need to reinvent the wheel to create something great! For example: Look at the Maxthon browser. It's just an add-on to the existing IE browser to add additional power and functionality to it. And it's now currently the best 'web browser' out there. This is in part because they don't need to worry about anything else except what to add to an already solid webpage rendering platform. Therefore, they can focus their creative potential on new ideas that are more beneficial and in-demand.TrackerV3 is no Windows Explorer clone (= using the identical common controls that are part of the OS) like virtually all other file managers

Sure enough, but just as sure: no horizontal sorting of files. Not because I'm against it but because it is not available, it's just not there. Once again: TrackerV3 does not use Windows common controls but its own controls. Of course I could write the code needed, but seeing this beautiful world on the other side of the window, my life feels just too precious for it.TsunamiZ wrote:File sorting and management visibility comes first, and tabbing is secondary!
Every non-TrackerV3 file manager has horizontal sorting of files because it's built into the Windows common controls, so you have a big choice there...

Well, I guess it's your choice how large a user base you want TrackerV3 to have, how long TrackerV3 will stay in the competition, and if it's worth your time to create this file manager in the first place. Given the number of competing and evolving tabbed file managers currently out there that support essential usability requests such as this, you may want to give TrackerV3 users more flexibilty and choice in the way they can use the program. Sorry, but I for one cannot use TrackerV3 without this improvement, since I perform a lot of graphics file management and need to sort through large numbers of files efficiently. TrackerV3's current limited sorting approach doesn't allow for a professional workflow under necessary circumstances.admin wrote:Sure enough, but just as sure: no horizontal sorting of files. Re: Need horizontal sorting of files!
No problem. There's a large variety of professional workflows under the sun, and quite a few file managers have found their (temporary) niche, TrackerV3 being one of them. Selective pressure is constantly high, of course: evolve or die.
If you come up with some new idea, something nobody else has, let me know it. That's the kind of stuff that makes me go to work.

I have a lot of experience contributing improvement suggestions and ideas for various programs that I use. I wouldn't have taken the time to review this program here if I didn't think it had potential. But now I guess my time is better spent on advising software that has more room to grow.

Well, wherever you head on to, you left your little mark on TrackerV3's way to perfection in pointing me to the Tab text color bug, which is just in the state of being fixed ... thanks for that!

Re: Need horizontal sorting of files!
No problem! Glad I can help. But there is just no sense in me waiting around for something you are hesitant to implement so I have no choice but to use another file manager. Hopefully, you might change your mind or find an easy way to add this. Maybe I'll check back on TrackerV3 in.....6 months, if there is still no all-in-one solid file manager fully evolved!admin wrote:Well, wherever you head on to, you left your little mark on TrackerV3's way to perfection in pointing me to the Tab text color bug, which is just in the state of being fixed ... thanks for that!
For web browsing, I use the all powerful Maxthon! Even as 'complete' as it is, I still periodicly contribute beneficial improvement suggestions to make it even better [and there have been improvements made based on my requests]. But for file managing, I haven't yet found the perfect program. But I'm making suggestions here and there to hopefully help create one that's fully evolved [at least as essential features go]...
