Folder Size using Everything SDK

Post by Horst »

Reading all that folder size stuff and options in the last postings and betas
I hope that XY someday supports Everything search engine.
In Total Commander the Everything SDK is not only used to speed up searching but also to get folder sizes.
Sizes are indexed by Everything and the result is that TC shows folder sizes for all sub-folders without any delay
for every folder I enter.
No options or special settings are needed, just enable it.
Windows 11 Home, Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8457)
Portable x64 XYplorer (Actual version, including betas)
Display settings 1920 x 1080 Scale 100%
Everything 1.5.0.1412b (x64), Everything Toolbar 2.3.0, Listary Pro 6.3.6.99

Sorry, but this is an useless attempt.
You are using a command line tool.
My suggestion for Don is to use the SDK which doesn't need any external tool.
It produces no delays because there is only an inter process communication which delivers the indexed results.

Edit:
You must enable "Index folder size" in your Everything Index options.
This is not enabled by default.

Yep, I have indexed the folder size, XY calculation is faster unless it's an large folder  , so I agree with your wish. Integration is the best.

Dependence on a 3rd party software? Forget it.

I would appreciate it if Windows itself provided a fast, reliable way to get this information.

Why not, it doesn't mean XY should only work with Everything.
In Total Commander its just an optional click to use Everything.
TC does work the same with or without this option.
But no one will ever work without Everything if he tried it once.
Everything itself is free, the SDK is free.

Of course I use the Everything GUI to paper folder script from Highend for searching :)

Maybe reconsider? I use AutoHotkey integration, which is pretty fast, despite querying with es.exe (which uses an extra thread to query before browsing the folder). But doesn't work with some folders of the HDD. . .

Doesn't really have to be a hard dependency. Maybe something like the custom copy handlers? Like how you can offload the copy to TeraCopy currently.

Yeah, I'm weighing it in the back of my mind.

For folder size, there's just one setting to turn it on and off. For search, Everything has its own syntax, so there are no real dependencies.
The Everything tool is becoming more and more powerful, and other file managers are trying to integrate it.
And it doesn't seem to require a lot of code to integrate.

Also noticed that more and more file managers are (optionally) using Everything.
