Again, how do you skip an item (one that you don't want to select)?

Using the cursor down key.
The problem with XY is that moving the cursor to the next line removes all selections.

But it doesn't have to be identical to TC.
Perhaps a ctrl+Ins could be used..

It handled as I have descibed it above.
As long as one uses the cursor Up/Down keys the selection is not changed
and any item can be toggled/added by the INS key or of course with a Ctrl-Click with the mouse.
Very convenient and I think easy to implement

BTW, Tools | Customize List | Sticky Selection is pretty close, with the SPACE key already doing what INS now does.

Its from the old Norton but my Total Commander expirience and license goes back to the times of Windows for Workgroups 3.1
The Sticky selestion does nothing useful for me in this case.
it just sets a Live filter and if I hit the space key
it hides some entries or a lot of entries without any logic for me.

but I miss the forward to the next file in the list when INS is pressed.
So this is still not so convenient as in TC

Give me a cool name (something without "NC" or "TC") for this archaic mode and I'll add it, at least as a tweak.

Sorry for off-topic. How do I select two separate intervals with keyboard? Ctrl+Shift+Space doesn't seem to work.

Assuming default settings, should be able to with Shift+Down for first selection, then Ctrl+Down to next group then Ctrl+Space then Ctrl+Shift+Down
