Dual Pane: To force the columns stay the same

Post by John_C »

Currently, when you have two panes opened, it seems there is no way to tell XYplorer to keep the columns, their order and width in both panes the same.

That is, the first pane may have 1. Name (200 px), 2. Ext (50 px) and 3. Modified (100 px) columns,
while the second pane may have 1. Label (50 px), 2. Name (200 px), 2. Ext (75 px) and 3. Created (100 px) columns.

When you add, remove, resize, change the order of columns in one pane, these changes are not reflected in the other.

It may (or may not) be a good idea to have an option to automatically sync these things. :-)

My 2 cents: It may not. Why? If I have a folder for music open in the second pane and have additional columns for it I definitely don't want them to get synced to the other pane...

Sure, but it depends on the workflow.

By the way, there is already another option in the same paradigm: to sync the view (e.g. Details or Thumbnails) across the tabs in a single pane. And I have this option enabled.

This doesn't have by far the same impact. Open 6 custom columns with specific properties of files and you know what I mean.

You can always write your own "copy the current column settings" and when changing panes let them apply automatically. Requires a button / keyboard shortcut ofc...
