Selecting text in the address bar

Post by kule »

Hi All,

Just downloaded XYplorer looks cool - regexp searches that is awesome!

One thing I've noticed I used quite a lot in Windows Explorer is clicking at the end of the address bar and using Ctrl-Shift-Left Arrow Key to select the previous folder/word. The default for XYplorer seems to highlight the entire address bar text instead.

Is there a option to just select the last folder?

Cheers
Luke

Hi!

Hm, looks like "" is not recognized as a word-separator. Because blanks and hyphens do work as expected with Ctrl-Shift-Left. I don't know if I can do anything about it, since that edit box in the Address bar is one of the few controls I have not written myself but used the one MS provides. Which appears to be buggy. (Now you see why I re-wrote almost everything myself... ) Gotta do some research.

Nothing. The issue is either not known or not solvable.

Let's tackle it the other way round: why do you select the previous folder/word? Maybe there's another way that leads to your goal...

Thanks for the reply, just one of those things I guess you get into habits of using things in certain ways.

I'm a developer so I tend to stay in an application folder and jump around directories within that. One way in which I would use it is a quick way of getting around the directory structure i.e. you want to go back two directories then into a different folder you can just select the previous two folders quickly, delete then carry on typing using autocomplete to get into the directory you're after - you only need to use the keyboard, you dont need to use the mouse.

Does that make sense?

You can travel by keys using Backspace for up, Shift+Backspace for Down, and arrows to select a sister folder.

In the near future there will be user-programmable hotkeys that will give you one-key jumps to any folders (shifting the burden from your fingers to your memory  ).

All that won't beat an old habit, I know. :)

This is something I've been meaning to mention for ages - please make it so Don, it's a bit annoying. If for no other reason than WE does this so it's expected behaviour.

Thanks for the quick replies - I'll give the backspace option a go.

Would be good if it could be added though :)

Cheers

That's pretty good! The literal translation would be something like "I wish I could do it despite of my uncontrollable laughing!" You see, German can be short sometimes!

So are you gonna do it? ;) Not knowing how to do it's never stopped you before.
