:info: Please include the following information:
1) Your XYplorer Version (e.g., v28.00.0801)
2) Your Windows Version (e.g., Win 11)
3) Your Screen Scaling Percentage (e.g., 125%).

:info: We strongly recommend adding your Windows Version and Screen Scaling Percentage to the Location field in your Profile or to your Signature. That way, you only have to type them once, and we won't have to search for that vital information.

Accesible folder in inaccesible folder bug

Post by Tamil »

I have the following folder structure.

D:\CommonFolder\ProtectedFolder\UnprotectedFolder

CommonFolder & UnprotectedFolders are accessible by Guest account but ProtectedFolder cannot be accessed by Guest account. When I enter D:\CommonFolder\ProtectedFolder\UnprotectedFolder\ in address bar XYplorer changes address to D:\CommonFolder\ and shows nothing.

:(

Before browsing a new location, XY checks whether the folder exists (for the current account). If a folder does not exist XY walks up the parent line until it finds a folder that exists and goes there.

In your case, it appears that "D:\CommonFolder\ProtectedFolder\UnprotectedFolder\" does not exist. Does Explorer behave differently?

Yes, explorer shows UnprotectedFolder.
Okay. Can you give me a quick description of how I can set up "D:\CommonFolder\ProtectedFolder\UnprotectedFolder" on my machine. Thanks.

Create 3 folders nested like this D:\CommonFolder\ProtectedFolder\UnprotectedFolder\

Right click on ProtectedFolder and click Properties and then select Security tab (In XP you have to boot in safe mode to see security tab and file system should be NTFS). Give access only to your account (#1) to this folder and remove other accounts. Similarly do it for UnprotectedFolder and also give access to an another account (#2). Now logoff and login with another account (#2) and you can't go inside ProtectedFolder with this account. But when you enter D:\CommonFolder\ProtectedFolder\UnprotectedFolder\ in address bar, you can go inside UnprotectedFolder in explorer not in XYplorer.

Okay, thanks, Tamil! I don't give it an extremely high priority, though. In other words: I have to get some other stuff done before.

I mapped that folder as network drive and it shows in XYplorer.
