Post by neutrox »

Do you mean that you don't want a dialog but instead just the file tally in the statusbar? That requires disabling background processing for backup via Configuration > File Operations > Background Processing > Apply to. I wouldn't recommend that if you have long-running backup operations. Furthermore you'd need to disable Show progress dialog, and Show summary report, via Configuration > File Operations > Backup Operations > Configure.

yes, but why disabling such a great feature just to get a smarter message already built in instead of a generic one which simply doesnt help?

You mean this message?

Code: Select all

Backup from 14.10.2012 20:48:46

From: E:\Test\a\
To: E:\Test\a\blah\

Files processed: 1 total: 0 new, 1 over, 0 skip
Bytes copied: 5,57 KB
Transfer rate: 880,50 KB/sec (incl. SHA-1 verification)
Remarks: Verified backup completed in 91,5 ms.

For background operations, its own indicator merely indicates whether one is running, but not whether it's successful; the status bar message conveys that.

When discussing changes, there is also the problem that multiple operations may run simultaneously, which possibly makes it difficult to dedicate the status bar to one particular operation.

no, the "(operation) done in (x) sec ('a' files processed: 'b' new, 'c' updated, 'd' skipped')" one at the status bar.

nas8e9 has a point but then don may solve the problem offering a clever way to get all the individual reports listed for reference.

For reference: it's already possible to see the reports for all backgrounded operations, including backup, from the Background Jobs-window which can be opened from the Background Jobs-button on the status bar (the button with a green check mark when no backgrounded operations are running). Details for a job can be shown by right-clicking and selecting Details.

i see.
but i'd really like to have an easy visual cue on each performed operation with no popping windows at all as i do lots of them each day and have to have access primarily on skipped actions.

Can you give an example of the report you want to see?
This does not seem to be very informative as a report: "(operation) done in (x) sec ('a' files processed: 'b' new, 'c' updated, 'd' skipped')"

that very template helps me a lot as often i need to check out for correct backups.
skipped files means a thing went wrong so i have to do a more accurate copy.
sometimes i know that the expected result is only one file updated or new, so anything wrong needs a re-check.
popups, log verification and any extra click take time when it comes to several of those operations and that's the reason why the status bar and its 'reduced mode' is important to me.

I see. Currently not possible. Maybe later.
