Searching in XY : issues

Post by gtm »

I didn't want to post in bugs or wishes, since perhaps there's an answer already.

Searching in XY has following issues as I see :

a) I can't search for folders
b) File searches sometimes show "hidden items" and not the result (when windows explorer shows a result)
c) When I switch the tab away from the search tab, it stops (this is really really bad)

Mh? Attributes, set checkmark for "Directory" (and don't use it for the non flag in front of it).

And the quicksearch (alt + F3) can be used with /r /d to find directories recursively.

Why is this bad? XY, like most all appl's, is single threaded at its core and switching tabs tells XY that you've decided to do something other than the current tab so naturally it will stop the search...personally, I'd not want it to continue when it's not the active tab.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

I definitely see the original point -- if a search is going to take a while, I'd like to be able to do something else (though right now I do it in another application).

While there are many single-threaded apps around, there are certainly many multi-threaded apps as well (perhaps more than single-threaded apps). I would love to be able to have background tasks natively included -- when I use XYcopy for background copying, if there is a conflict needing resolution i.e. overwrite or ignore, sometimes the confirmation window never becomes visible and I have to kill XY and xycopy.exe if I want to do any further copying since the queue is then blocked.

I love XY, using it many (hundreds?) times each day and would love to have some of the native multitasking available. However, since that's not possible currently, I'll continue to wait and enjoy what we've got!
