Hi,
in the address bar help topic I find the statement:
(4) It supports TAB-bing through the items.
Great!! was my first thought, I can quickly build up paths from scratch <TAB>ing with my left and backslashing with my right hand just like in the bash. But too soon I realized that the <TAB>-key isn't involved (which is not much of a surprise regarding windows conventions).
My question: in XY's flavour of TAB-ing the <tab>-key is somehow "replaced" by the combination of the drop-list and the arrow keys, right?
Type in some meaningful root path characters, when the drop-list comes up choose the next path level with the arrow key and "confirm" selection by entering the backslash; when the drop-list comes up choose the next path level ......
Is this it or is there another way for maximizing address bar navigation speed I may haven't noticed yet?
Thanks & cheers,
Filehero

Re: Address bar and TAB-ing?
Slowly, I'm getting into my XY flow.
My main usage scenario: roughly 90% of time XY has my favored lightweight layout -> MiniTree, Catalog, 2 tabs at most. That's it, as easy and uncluttered it can be!
Every once in a while, I need to look up deep paths not covered by the current MTree.
So, why not just toggle-off MiniTree? Of course, this is exactly what I am doing.
Problem: when I toggle off MiniTree, my internal backup HD usually has fallen to sleep again. So each time it takes quite an annoying while until the full tree gets build up (to make it clear: nothing XY could be blamed for!).
This is where I highly welcome XY's power address bar. Unfortunately, I'm currently doing lots of Powershell development where I'm extensively using "real" TABing during my tests. Hence, I'd love to use the <TAB>-key as well when engaging XYs address bar. Sometimes, it's really "painful" to set your mind and your hands/fingers to switch to arrow-keys instead of <TAB> and vice versa.
Hence I might like to ask: Don, is it generally possible to support the <TAB>-key in the adress bar pane?
Cheers,
Filehero

Tab works as you expect if you have XY only suggest recently used items, but unfortunately it doesn't work when auto-completing path names.
I too find it extremely frustrating, so hopefully Don can take another look and have some success at making this better.
If he doesn't come through I can offer up two possible solutions with AutoHotkey scripts, but I need to update them first.

Re: Address bar and TAB-ing?
Hi,
Arghhh, this is exactly the behaviour I would like to see with path auto-completion. The only visible/behavioral difference should be the drop list contens: history vs. possible next level folders.
But first, let's wait what Don has to say once he finds some time to think about it.
Cheers,

Confirmed - thanks for this pointer.TheQwerty wrote:Tab works as you expect if you have XY only suggest recently used items, but unfortunately it doesn't work when auto-completing path names.

Put me on your pre-order list.TheQwerty wrote: If he doesn't come through I can offer up two possible solutions with AutoHotkey scripts, but I need to update them first.
