How can I make highlighted rows the default?

Hi, is there a way to make those "show grid", "highlight focused item" and "highlight selected rows" items that are checked under Tools-customize lists to stick when I change directory, that is, to make that the default for display in all tabs? My XP machine seems to do it ok, yet on the Win7x64 machine, when I change the directory, the grid etc. disappears. Is it a win7 thing or have I missed a setting someplace? I tried to reproduce the settings faithfully, but perhaps...

Assuming you've saved settings after making the changes in Tools > Customize List, they should stick. The only reason I can think of, is having Folder View Settings enabled, especially if you've set a Folder View as default.

That was it, thank you! That must have been, too, why going to Home on the tab threw it all off, until I reset home with those things enabled as well.
I am happy camper now, as usual, with the help of this wonderful group.
