Alt+D Accelerator Key to Focus Address Bar

Post by pissant »

From what I can tell, the only current accelerator key related to the Address Bar is F6. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to always go directly to the Address Bar.

I suggest Alt+D for this, and I hope it's possible. Alt+D is the "go to Address Bar" accelerator used by Firefox, Internet Explorer, Explorer, and many other applications I've seen.

I would like to add a direct key to Address Bar and also one to Catalog! However: Alt+D does not do it here in IE nor in FF! :? Are there different shortcuts in Germany, or what?

EDIT: in Germany it's Alt+S in IE, Ctrl+L in FF. Anyway, I'll add Alt+D for Address Bar, and Alt+C for Catalog. (Does anything speak against Alt+C??)

I can't tell you... But for me (using US English), both IE and Explorer show A&ddress, indicating that Alt+D works for the Address Bar. And while Ctrl+L does give focus to the Address Bar for me in Firefox, so does Alt+D.

In Germany they changed it to Addre&ss, because the "d" is gone in "&Datei" (the &File menu). Babylon... I have no problem with Alt+D if that's what most users expect. The majority rules in these issues.

Alt+D, Alt+C ... there's a problem now I did not foresee: this collides with accelerators in various places. E.g. if you have FindFiles/NameLocation open and press Alt+C then "Match Case" is toggled. Arrgh. ALT-shortcuts are not such a splendid idea when you're using accelerators at the same time... what now???

Argh... Why do I keep getting logged out of this site? I'm keeping the cookie...

Alt+D is working nicely for the Address Bar in the latest beta. I found one conflict on the Report tab of the Info Panel, but the Report tab wins in that case--which I guess means that it's as if the Address Bar Alt+D shortcut doesn't exist. I don't use Alt+C but from what I can see Alt+D is working well. :)
