Search results tab

Post by Borut »

Is there a functional difference between the settings

Current tab and
"Search results" tab (unlocked)

apart of the tabs header (<search base folder> and a text constant "Search results", respectively)?

Really sorry, if I again ask the obvious, but the Help states:

"Search results" tab (locked): Show search results in a newly created tab named "Search results" (by default; the name can be changed by renaming the tab). This tab is automatically locked when it is created. All following search results will be sent to this tab.

"Search results" tab (unlocked): It's the same as above but -- you guessed it -- the tab is not auto-locked.

However, when I set it to "Search results" tab (unlocked), the results apparently come up in the current tab.

The difference is: when a "Search results" tab already exists it is reused.

Thank you. It is of no much importance, but maybe Help could mention that when no search result is already there then in that case the results appear in the current tab (not so with locked search results tab).

Oh. Now that is a bug! It should open a new SR tab. Fix comes...

Just saw that it is not a bug but has been made on purpose:

Code: Select all

v9.90.1021 - 2011-06-08 10:03
     * Tabs: A unlocked search results tab called "Search Results" now
auto-loses this special name when it is used for normal browsing.
FYI, this is relevant when you opted for 'Show search results in'
      = '"Search results" tab (unlocked)'.
This change made another change necessary to prevent undesired
multiplication of tabs on each search: Now, with setting '"Search
results" tab (unlocked)', the search is performed in the current
tab, not in a new tab. Unless the current tab is locked, or
another tab named "Search results" already exists.
But I admit the current behavior is a bit counter-intuitive. Unsure what to do... :|

To me, the functionality and logic seem sound. As for conveying the algorithm of ""Search results" tab (unlocked)", would "Current tab if no Search Tab already open" come close? It would gloss over what would happen if the current tab is locked, but hopefully people using locked tabs could guess that nuance.
