How to select the item in focus after folder change?

Post by soja »

I feel like I might be missing a configuration setting somewhere.

When I change folders in XYplorer, the first item automatically takes focus. However, it is not selected. In order to select it, I have to manually press the space bar (or click it). Is there a setting that automatically selects the item in focus after changing the directory?

Thanks

I dont think there is such a setting to select first item in list, but there is a setting to select recent subfolder when going Up or Down. Look for "AutoSelectMRUSubfolder" in the ini and set it to 1.
Just curious, why do you need such a setting?

A common scenario for me is when I'm navigating with the keyboard. When I want to enter a subfolder, I'll arrow (or type) to it and press enter. However, when the focus is already on the folder I want but it's not selected, I have to arrow down+up, or space bar, or similar.

Ditto with anything I use the keyboard for after directory navigation, I guess... like renaming (F2) for instance.

Your problem can be easily solved by using control+enter to enter a focused subfolder.
I am not very sure why the first item is focused but not selected, one reason could be to avoid auto triggering of preview in info panel. Or simply for faster browsing (in many cases XY retrieves folder properties of folder is selected).
If i had to vote for focused item vs selected item i would choose the former.
