I just started using the new color filters and the unique shape thing is great. I know there is the undocumented merge thing for merging text color and back color which is great too.
Right now one is limited by the fact that two different shapes cannot exist in in file, which can be incredibly useful.
Example: File bigger than 100 mb (colored red) and modified before 1 day (colored green), i can see only green or red depending on where my filter is. But since the shapes for size and date are different it would be useful if they can be combined so i can see both size and date info in one file.
I see that there are four shapes now for name, attribute, size and date. I think it would be very useful to get all that information just by looking at a file.

Re: Color filter shape
Ultimately impossible because you can also AND any number of filters of various types (more types and shapes will be added in future). The shape thing meets its limits there...

Re: Color filter shape
OK, if you plan to add more then this would not work.
By the way, Just for fun I tried to combine four possible shapes for one item.
For example the below folder (screenshot) has:
1) Name filter = New Folder, color=red, shape= short tab
2) Date filter = 1 day old, color=yellow, shape=triangle
3) Attribute filter = hidden, color=blue, shape= long tab
4) Size filter = 100 mb or more, color=grey, shape=lower right snip

Re: Color filter shape
If considering to show multiple colors I still would think about using different columns - at least when showing details view. I think it would be *very* obvious when date column(s) would show date-information by color. (I think for date info there is no column as obvious as date-column...)
Same for size or attribute.
For me every other solution looks like a compromise (that might be neccessary for non-details-view).

Re: Color filter shape
Let's wait until we get more filters...
Generally one should note that Color Filters is NOT a device that attributes a color to certain property, BUT a device that attributes a color to the FIRST matching property. Although there came some exceptions recently (Back+Forecolor combinations, Boolean AND), the thing is and will remain basically a priority list where the winner takes it all. To color individual columns would mean a total rewrite -- very unlikely.

Nevertheless color filter by columns would be, in my mind, very more comprehensible and more powerful than color filter shapes.admin wrote:To color individual columns would mean a total rewrite -- very unlikely.

Re: Color filter shape
Yes, coloring columns would be great (as i use details for all non-image files). But shapes are visible in other views which makes it interesting.jjk wrote:Nevertheless color filter by columns would be, in my mind, very more comprehensible and more powerful than color filter shapes.admin wrote:To color individual columns would mean a total rewrite -- very unlikely.
