XYPlorer crashes when viewing "Network Places"

I am running Windows XP w/ SP2, XYPlorer 4.5 build 16.

Whenever I try to view My Network Places in XYPlorer, the program freezes up and requires me to terminate the process. I regularly use Network Places and have many things bookmarked there, some not on this side of the planet.

Perhaps XYPlorer has trouble with many (and spread out location-wise) network links?

Strangly, I also have some drives mapped (viewable in My Computer) that are not on this side of the planet either and My Computer is viewable fine, albeit slow.

What exactly are you doing before the freeze?

Can you jump directly to some UNC path by entering some \\server\share\folder\folder\ into Go to...?

I am selecting "Network Places" from the left tree. It crashes at this point.

Strangly, I am unable to view any of my Network Places bookmarks in XYPlorer in the format \\a.b.c.d. I can view some machines by name and that works, but the moment I select "My Network Places" from the left tree, the program locks up and the process needs to be killed.

That's strange. Since when/what version do you have this problem?

I've just tried it on recent versions, so far 4.5 build 16 and 17 have this problem. I'll try it on the newest build.

I did not change networking code since months! So: do you remember to have seen this working anytime in the past?
Generally: this is hard to debug from here. I know for sure that the app is working fine in the nethood for a lot of users. So, what could be so special about your case? Hard to say. Any ideas?

I haven't really tried it much in the past; therefore I don't remember this problem.

The only thing I can think of is that I have a lot of links there, some are very far physically from me. Even through regular Explorer it takes some time to load it. I've let XYPlorer sit for about 15 minutes frozen to see if I could wait it out, but it remains locked up.

Let me try a few more things...

What do you mean by "a lot" and "very far physically"?

Is there *any* way for you to see the nethood node (folder tree) open without freeze?

I have about 40 links, most of which are on my local network. I am in the US, and some of my links are in India.

I am unable to access the Network Places on the tree at all. I've let it wait for 20 minutes and it is still frozen.

(1) please send me one of your links per email

(2) please try this little test program:

There are 4 methods to read the nethood; maybe one of them works ar your place.

Of the four methods in that program, only the last one (under NT/2000/XP) worked fine for me, and instantly. The rest lead to the program crashing similar to XYPlorer does.

One link I have is in Network Places is an FTP for 69.12.0.252. It is located several hundred miles from me.

Hmm, now that sounds interesting! First immediate conclusion: your XYplorer does not know he's on an XP system! That would be big bug

I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2 build 2600 to be exact.
If it is an XP bug, am I the only one who's encountered it?

At least if this is the problem, it shouldn't be hard to fix.

Indeed! And it's not hard to test either: run NetworkList.exe again, please. In the lower left corner there's a label "OS:"... what does say? WinXP? Or not?

It says "WinXP" both before and after running.
