Favorites Pane, icon view and Tab Bar

Post by Matrox »

Hi Just downloaded the latest beta.

Some great new features, the small icon view has been a wish for a long time, and the address bar and tool bar options are great.

I would like to suggest a few little changes you might like to consider.

1. Small Icon view is great, but is it possable to do a sort (either by name, date etc) and have the list presented from top to bottom, what I mean is instead of:

A-----B
C-----D
E-----F
etc.

I would find it much more logical to list as:

A-----D
B-----E
C-----F
etc.

just like explorer does in the list view. makes selecting groups of adjacent alphabetical or numerically named files much easier too using the shift key.

2. Would it be possable to constrain the tabbar to the browser window width so when the folder tree pane is open they are pushed along (just like firefox does when you open the bookmark pane)

3. A folder panel for favorite folders would be a great addition, I shouldn't think it would to hard too have this working like bookmarks in say firefox with a pane which could be displayed instead of the folder tree or as well as the folder tree. Being able to create groups of favorites would be cool eg. A Photos folder containing several more folder links in a tree.

4. (last one!) A context menu option to change the view settings between the various options, like the new tool bar icon does.

Well that is it for the moment! Keep up the great work XYplorer is by far the best file explorer out there and just keeps getting better.

Have you tried Explorer's Small Icon view with longer lists? It's awkward, almost unusable. I very consciously went a different way. And I don't think selecting files is a major problem here. You'll get used to it quickly.

Why? What's the problem?

Yes, that's my next bigger thing... patience... (BTW, the other bigger thing is a file comment/description column! :) )

But the toolbar icon is wonderful.
