XYplorer Scripting is insufficient for beyond operation. The scripting isn't powerful and being away for a programming language. The scripting like a CMD batch scripting.
XYplorer must have Python or Ruby programming integration. Key on the advanced operations that I could only dream of FTP staging & publishing, packaging, integration with agile development service, version controller systems, etc.. etc.. etc..
Python & Ruby has tons of the library

Re: Programming API
Hi threedot, welcome.
Luckily you can launch any Python & Ruby [, VBS, Batch, <your language>] script from XYplorer with an single click.
If you have ~ 30 MB space on your USB-Stick you can even carry portable Python with you.
But i hope too that a few more VB basics will be implemented soon
(like FOR() and FUNCTION)
Please note that XYplorers scripting support doesn't want to cover a full "programming language" but is meant for automation of file management issues.threedot wrote:XYplorer Scripting is insufficient for beyond operation. Re: Programming API
Welcome to the forum threedot.
First of all, your wishes might be more likely to be listened to, if you take the demanding tune out of them in the future. It doesn't seem very polite to demand something in your first post, don't you think?
Second, we've got a bunch of forum members with a grip to XY's way of scripting, some of them being programmers too, but none of them complained about the scripting engine itself so far, but rather came up with feature requests to improve it.
Third and finally, as far as I know Don (the developer of XY) doesn't like to integrate 3rd party sw, but he might speak up himself...

What kind of? If you think about worms or malicious snipped, already can make it easily with XYP scripting.Stefan wrote:Hi threedot, welcome.

Yes i can. But insufficient. I wish enumerating catalog, open a new tab with visual filter, Glob filtering, packaging an archive and publishing to ftp. I think storing a locational pattern into sqlite. I think semantic XYplorer with API.Stefan wrote:Luckily you can launch any Python & Ruby [, VBS, Batch, <your language>] script from XYplorer with an single click.

Do you have the need to explore America, again with XYS engine?
I used VBS 3 years ago. What the shitty.Stefan wrote:But i hope too that a few more VB basics will be implemented soon(like FOR() and FUNCTION)

I looked at XYS. The programming language seems so far away.RalphM wrote:Second, we've got a bunch of forum members with a grip to XY's way of scripting, some of them being programmers too, but none of them complained about the scripting engine itself so far, but rather came up with feature requests to improve it.
a biased sentence.RalphM wrote:Third and finally, as far as I know Don (the developer of XY) doesn't like to integrate 3rd party sw, but he might speak up himself...

Re: Programming API
I agree with RalphM on this...we've had others who demanded stuff in first post or two and they were basically ignored by Don.threedot wrote:maybeRalphM wrote:First of all, your wishes might be more likely to be listened to, if you take the demanding tune out of them in the future. Not sure what FM you are presently using but the level of scripting available in XY is quite rare...I'm only aware of one other FM that has any type of scripting but not sure how it compares to XY...and as Stephan wrote, XYS is intended strictly as scripts to automate tasks that can already be done with XY as a FM and not as a language of its own...if you want that, you may wish to look elsewhere but I'm not sure if you'll find it.threedot wrote:I looked at XYS. Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
