Status bar for each pane to make dual pane more useful?

Can we have a status bar for each pane? It would help with doing comparisons and sync jobs between panes. Currently, we have to share 1 status bar with 2 panes and this requires us to actively switch panes to see the status bar update--not very efficient.

Even in a single pane mode, there isn't much room left on status bar so i don't see how it could be squeezed down to fit in half that space for dual vertical panes, and for horizontal panes, the layout doesn't have room for it.

could make the status bar thicker for multiple rows of info, etc. even the modern windows explorer in windows 7 uses multiple rows.
