"Go to Application Data folder" doesn't
Happened to notice that Go to Application Data folder in fact goes to same location as Go to Application folder. Not catastrophic but disconcerting.
Using 9.50.0100.
Using 9.50.0100.

C:\Program Files\XYplorer\XYplorer.ini
C:\Program Files\XYplorer\
C:\Program Files\XYplorer\Data\
The last is where IMO Go To Application Data Folder should lead (unless I'm really missing the point here).

The function works. What makes you think that your Application Data folder is C:\Program Files\XYplorer\Data\ ?

Well, based on this post http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 907#p51907 where you said so? Now this applies to using a portable setup on a possibly non-portable drive but is still valid, I thought.admin wrote:The function works. What makes you think that your Application Data folder is C:\Program Files\XYplorer\Data\ ?
Addendum: Here's the bulk of post linked above for quicker ref:

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Common sense really. Else why have two Menu|Go items point to the same folder?admin wrote:The function works. What makes you think that your Application Data folder is C:\Program Files\XYplorer\Data\ ?
If the XY Data folder is NOT for data perhaps it should be called something else, e.g. Folder without a real function.

Okay - if this is done for reasons of forward compatibility then it is understandable. For someone still using and quite content with XP SP3 it ought to be explained somewhere.grindax wrote:Do a fresh install on Vista/7 for example,

Re: "Go to Application Data folder" doesn't
Agreed that may well be true, but I was simply pointing out that the Data subfolder within XY is what would be most likely expected to be the destination of the "Go to App Data".grindax wrote:But arumdigitus *does* have an XYplorer.ini in the app path, so I don't think this applies.j_c_hallgren wrote:Well, based on this post http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 907#p51907 where you said so?

grindax - The proper and correct location for statup.ini and XYplorer.ini for a multiplicity of reasons have been causing me much grief over the last month so forgive sensitivity on the subject.

Re: "Go to Application Data folder" doesn't
What's so difficult about:

Code: Select all
If
- no app data path is set by command line
- AND (no startup.ini is found in app path OR startup.ini contains no app data path)
- AND no XYplorer.ini is found in app path
then the app data path is auto-set to <xypath>\Data.FAQ | XY News RSS | XY X
