Shell integration (context menu items)

Post by Stilez »

(My last one for today - honest! )

When right clicking a folder in XYplorer, there are options to "search..." and "open". These are present by default in all except Win7 and optional via tweak or registry edit in Win7. The highlighted folder always opens or is searched in explorer.exe and windows file search regardless of shell integration settings in XYplorer.

Is there a way to have a shell integration option to override the registry context menu hooks for these, so that right-click on any folder, anywhere, and choosing "open" or "search..." causes it to open with XYplorer's open and XYplorer's Find... instead?

At present one can never really avoid explorer.exe because it remains the context menu handler for search and open actions on a folder regardless of XYplorer's settings.

(I don't know much about how context menu items are done in the registry, but I gather open and search are essentially registry-stored command lines. If so, now we have command line scripting in XYplorer, presumably this could be done at least by "hack", removing the context menu entry for search and adding one for "Find..." using "/script=" ?)

Looks like you are talking about the Default File Manager setting. Yes, this is indeed a registry hack and XYplorer does it for you here: Configuration | Shell Integration | XYplorer is default file manager.

This works for Open... but not for Find... (what should the latter be anyway: Open XYplorer with opened Find Files tab, right?)

Yep - open XYplorer with the selected drive or folder (or items?) highlighted and the "find files" dialog displayed and ready to go.

OK; I make a note for 9.60.
