PowerCMD - Can highlight multiple entries with different color. Kind of "GUI for cmd". - http://www.powercmd.com/ - SHAREWARE
AptEdit - Its "AptDiff" works way better than Total Commander's "Compare Files", regarding text comparison. - http://www.aptedit.com/download.htm - SHAREWARE
MED Text Editor - Currently not under development, but was a good freeware choice in the past. - http://www.utopia-planitia.de/indexus.html - SHAREWARE, but does not expires.
Cream - thousands of options, plus supporting themes. Writers will probably like: chocolateLiquor, Inkpot, Navajo Night, Night, OceanDeep, Terminal, Zenburn. - http://cream.sourceforge.net/
Note: Installer says that install path must end with "\vim", such like:
Code: Select all
C:\Program Files\Cream\vim\Note 2: In order to use Cream (VIM's frontend), you MUST launch it using the following parameters:
Code: Select all
"C:\Program Files\Cream\vim\vim72\gvim.exe" "-u" "C:\Program Files\Cream\vim\vim72\cream\creamrc" "-U" "NONE" "--servername" "CREAM"Evernote Portable - An easy way to gather information all around and great search options. Be sure to enable UniCliper when data mining around the web. Currently available on dependency of .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and probable NOT portable anymore, keep an eye on it since things there are also very dynamic. http://www.evernote.com/
Ditto - Grabs clipboard content and paste it all at once anywhere it may fit; allows to save such content for future usage. - http://ditto-cp.sourceforge.net/ - FREEWARE
Liquid Store Binder - Aimed to writers, mainly. Turns writing into computer something near a pleasure. - http://www.blackobelisksoftware.com/download.html - SHAREWARE
Sublime Text - Has a text scroller ("minimap") which is great to deal with large chunks of text even at lower screen resolutions. LOw end computers may not be able to run it, since it uses some DirectX - http://www.sublimetext.com/download - SHAREWARE, but does not expires - "license must be purchased for continued use"
PSpad - Currently my favorite. Tons of options, allows customization, spell checking for 19 languages. Last update: 12 July 2009 (abandoned or is it simply perfect? lol) - http://www.pspad.com/en/download.php - FREEWARE
HippoEDIT - Clean interface and future versions will (probably) have the better code/error/mismatching brackets highlighting I've ever seen. You can assign a shortcut to almost everything. GREAT support, one of the best out there, I'd dare to say. - http://www.hippoedit.com/download.php - SHAREWARE
Currently testing:
Richardson's Edit Rocket; Galcott's PowerEdit (one of the best HTML detaggers I've ever seen since [guess?] Detagger, the pink winged pig! lol); Aptana (can't remember why, but in a task I had to do last year its version 1.x served me better than 2.x...) and... UltraEdit. All shareware except Aptana.
