Three problems that I can't find the cure

Post by cpusrvc »

I don't know when these stopped working. I'm using the latest XY v9.30 on Win7 Pro x32

1. Help file opens and shows contents in left pane, but clicking a topic doesn't show anything in the right pane (just "Navigation to the webpage was canceled"). I don't know when this stopped working but I can't find any settings in the INI files with a path to the help files. I keep XY in D:\Utilities\XYplorer\

2. Zebra striping - can't get it to work on my main computer. "Use Zebra striping in grid" is turned on in Colors & Styles. "Underline highlighted selected rows" has no effect. My laptop (v8.80) works fine.

3. I can't get the full row highlighted when a file is selected. Only the file name is highlighted. This also works fine on my laptop.

I couldn't get zebra striping to work either. In the end I found there's some relation to some other options:

2) Check if Tools->Customize List->Show Grid is on, otherwise zebra stripes do not seem to work.

3) Much the same, but with Tools->Customize List->Highlight Selected Rows.

If this is indeed the case, it would be nice if the options in the configuration dialog worked directly, it's hard for people to guess they have to fiddle elsewhere as well to get them to do anything.

Thanks! Yes, it makes no sense to have them in the config file where they don't work (but should) and put them buried in a menu. If it requires both, the config page should say so, but I see no reason to require both. It's counter-intuitive.

Now only one problem left ... my help file. Any one else can help me?

THANK YOU! As you evidently know, it says one reason CHM's can't be opened because MS has plugged IE security holes. I would think that almost everyone (running XP & up) should have had this problem. So I checked on my laptop (Win7 Home Prem. x64) and it works fine. My laptop is mostly configured like my desktop. Go figure ...

These options are global and refine the list styles (set in menu Tools | Customize List) that are (optionally) local to each tab. It might be a bit confusing but it just mirrows how people like to use this. And since it's set and forget it's ok.

Maybe word them differently then to make it more obvious? As it is right now, I think most users will open the configuration dialog and click 'Use zebra striping in grid' and expect that to actually put zebra striping on the listers.

Maybe something like "Zebra striping (requires Show Grid in list)"?

Yes, good idea. Thanks.
