Listary support broken?

Post by tux. »

Just wondering:
Why exactly is Listary not working with XYplorer while it does for every other file manager I tested?

Does XY use proprietary list controls?

No. These are owner-drawn controls. DIY.

So take this as a feature request then: Provide support for Listary.
Should only require some renamings IMO.

You are kidding, right? :) Listary for handling "large unmanageable lists"... why should I support this? :P

File managers are usually built for managing large, unmanageable lists. Folders with three or four files don't need XYplorer either, right?

I'm not familiar with Listary, but I'd guess the relevant parts for XYplorer are its ability to filter a list on any part of the item name as well as the ability to use wildcards. That's something XYplorer can do when using the Find Files tab of the Info Panel. Very quickly, too. :D

I know that XYplorer has some filtering abilities (x² does, too  ), but still that's no reason to break Listary support.

In fact, type-and-find is still easier than XY's panels.

http://www.listary.com/

I know this feature very well
(e.g. http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/Google_like_QS.html)
and would like to have this native build-in into explorer.

This feature is like the Ctrl+J Visual filter
or maybe listary looks more like ">pattern" in the address bar

but the feature i know is with live update of the list view, an live filter for the list.
Like " |pattern" in the address bar, you see only items containing the signs typed in.
But not static but live as you type in or delete signs.

This reminds me on an older feature wish too:
Find-as-you-type

Live Visual Filter is planned. :) I needs a major rewrite therefore I cannot do it quickly.

I presume Listary support would require less effort.

:) Actually I have no idea what it takes to do this. Do you have any specifications?
