Windows 7 file dialogs are modal
Hi all
I can't find evidence of this being posted elsewhere (which is wierd and makes me think this must be my problem alone)... but file copy dialogs under Windows 7 Ultimate x64 always steal focus from the main XYplorer program, which is incredibly annoying when you're copying large files.
This occurs both with and without the FileOpProgressModeless ini flag set, and in fact I have replicated by downloading the latest version and running with a default configuration.
Any help appreciated (:
cheers

Official - 8.80.03
Not symptomatic of WOW64 redirection, or anything like that? That's the only other thing that immediately comes to mind for me

Re: Windows 7 file dialogs are modal
I don't think so. It's a problem that started with Vista SP1. A lot has been written about it here in the forum, but you find nothing about it in the web. Therefore I still have the tiny hope that it's a little stupid error I'm making somewhere. Otherwise a lot of other apps should have been broken as well and talk about it.pospi wrote:Official - 8.80.03

The latest BETA (v8.80.0304) has again another little change here... has anybody tried it yet?

Re: Windows 7 file dialogs are modal
I have. Well, I am trying v8.80.0305 right now and it didn't freeze for a couple of minutes, even though I couldn't do anything with XYplorer or the transfer window in that time. It then stopped responding and after a while went back to "responding, but you can't do anything" state. Wherever I hover the mouse cursor in XY window, I get the "busy" cursor state. So overall slightly better because the freeze isn't constant, but since one can't do anything either way it's back to square oneadmin wrote:The latest BETA (v8.80.0304) has again another little change here... has anybody tried it yet?

Re: Windows 7 file dialogs are modal
Thanks. Argh. I'm still stumbled about the whole affair. I find it quite unlikely that MS breaks very common API that exists since 1995, and even more unlikely that nobody seems to talk about it... there must be some tiny but idiotic thing in my code... argh...zer0 wrote:I have. yeah i hear that, i sure wish microsoft would un-duct-tape their mouths about these things
is it just for x64 people, or does it happen for 32 bit users as well?

Re: Windows 7 file dialogs are modal
Take it easy, Microsoft's Mark Russinovich has posted exactly what changes were made in Vista's SP1 (after which XYplorer copying/moving "broke") file copy improvemenets in his blog here: http://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovic ... 26167.aspx So one can't really say that Microsoft's mouth is duct-taped over thispospi wrote:yeah i hear that, i sure wish microsoft would un-duct-tape their mouths about these things
Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are plagued by this bug.pospi wrote:is it just for x64 people, or does it happen for 32 bit users as well?

Re: Windows 7 file dialogs are modal
I'm afraid, it's still bad news. The transfer dialogue window is inaccessible when minimised. XYplorer itself is inaccessible while files are transferred and it goes in and out of "Not Responding" state with alarming frequency.

Not to worry. Just like Edison, you found 2 ways in which not to solve this issueadmin wrote:Well.zer0 wrote:I'm afraid, it's still bad news. Re: Windows 7 file dialogs are modal
I've just noticed the problem seems related to putting the file on the clipboard initially, rather than the resultant move/copy operation. If you copy a file in XYplorer and then paste it in regular windows explorer, you will experience the focus locking in windows explorer instead.

I'm having the same problems with Win 7 x64.
Will this be fixed when your 'XYcopy' feature is released?
Is there an ETA for that feature?
