That's not a mistake!

That's part of the name! Anything prior to the last "." is not an extension, remember?
And why would anyone ever hide extensions?

I have never understood that, as it opens you up to files that aren't what they appear to be.
I know that. Think on the home users, which know ANYTHING on computing. Problem comes when they saw something that they were not seeing when using WE.
WE:
file.txt.lnk is shown as "file",
file.txt is shown equally as "file".
XY:
file.txt.lnk is shown as "file.txt",
file.txt is shown as "file".
They usually simply don't know that one is a shortcut, and one is the file itself.
OF COURSE it'd better if they could keep extensions KNOWING that each extension will accomplish a different function despite having the same name. But they are not power users, they barely know how to turn the thing on and we should respect that.
I don't understand why people drink and drive. But that doesn't keep governments away from preventing car accidents any way they can.
But the main question is: why not having an option to show file.txt.lnk, file.txt AND file, to fit each XY users needs, if that probably is not that hard to do?
I have a setup that ignores all of the above - I CAN understand the environment I'm in. I don't have any problem with X, Y or Z situations. I'm trying to give a focus on the non-XY people and think that's a way to help Don in spreading its audience. But why not just sit and watch the paint drying?
