Beta 8.80.0030 High CPU Usage

Post by wraithdu »

As the title, there is huge CPU usage when doing just about anything with 8.80.0030 on my Win7 Pro 32-bit laptop. It's pretty much impossible to use the app right now. Scrolling, navigating, etc. is all very laggy and spikes the CPU.

Ugh, I don't. Do you know if they're archived anywhere? Looks like I might have to update my update script to keep backups...

LOL, I was thinking about changing my update script too...
It was just luck that I had an older copy on my memory drive. I've uploaded it here:

That is really strange! Here switching the tabs lasted about 1 second. After the downgrade it is really fast again.

I'm not experiencing that problem either, but, for those who are, below are the links to 8.80.0028:

Is there any kind of diagnostic we can do on our end to help you locate the issue?

Which specific operation is causing High CPU Usage? And under what OS? (At the moment it seems this is confined to Win7?)

Win7 Pro 32-bit
I get the spikes when scrolling the tree view and navigating to a new folder. Also when switching tabs, but that's basically the same a navigating to a new folder, so I think that's the same thing.

I retract my earlier statement -- I notice spikes across several cores when scrolling up and down in the Tree, it's definitely sluggish :?

The natural suspect is of course the new graphics engine. But switching tabs hardly makes use of this engine: there's no internal icon drawing involved (file icons are drawn by other means). :? Mystery...

Please disable menu Tools / Customize Tree / Show PlusMinus. Does this change anything in Tree sscrolling slugginess?

Spot on, no spikes! Scrolling is back to being as smooth as a baby's bum

That's bad news because it proves beyond doubt that my drawing engine has a problem. A problem that it definitely does not have on my system. Can other XP users confirm that under XP everything is fine as always?
