Refresh Tree on F5

Hi !

I am used to years of F5 to refresh the Tree (left frame) as well as the File List (right frame).

I can imagine a need for separate refresh commands, but nothing concrete comes to mind :) although I know that people's ways of going about things can be vastly different.

Having to do View-Refresh Tree is too much trouble for something that I often do 20-30 times a day. Two handed commands (like Ctrl- or Alt-) are inappropriate for a GUI - I might as well being going back to DOS. :D

In any event, having the exact same behavior as Windows Explorer should at least be an option.

PS Most of the other F keys do things I've never even considered. For example, what do you mean when you say:
F4 Refresh Folder: update the currently selected folder in TreeView
??

Rebuild Tree refreshes the left half, and Refresh File List refreshes the right half, so what does this do ? (I can't tell any change by pressing it.)

Well I for one like it separate, cause I do need to refresh the listview quite often, but I don't want to rebuild the tree (or rarely) cause then all branches are closed, and i don't like that 8)

Thats said, I'm not sure what F4 does either :roll: (maybe F4 & Ctrl+F4 could be switched)

F4, refresh folder: this command is in TV3 since day one. That is, since the day when there was no auto-refresh. If you shut off auto-refresh, you will quickly learn how useful it is: it simply checks if the current folder's subfolders as displayed in the tree still reflect reality or if subfolders have to be removed or added.
Sometimes auto-refresh does not work (it only works on file operations that notify the OS about themselves); again F4 is the solution.

It's not a case of the subfolders of the selected folder refreshing.

It's other folders of other drives on the tree.

For example, when a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM is changed, or when a new folder is added by another program.

When those things occur, I want to be able to select that folder which does not even exist when the tree was last drawn.

In Windows Explorer, F5 does that redraw.

OK, I'm convinced, but I still like to separate tree and list refresh, at least as an option. So, what about this scenario:

F4 = Refresh Tree (not just current folder)
F5 = Refresh List

Option: F5 = Refresh List and Tree

Sounds good to me, but then will Ctrl+F4 be used for Refresh Folder ?

No, Ctrl+F4 stays Rebuild Tree.
Refresh Folder is gone; it's implied in Refresh Tree.

oops, yeah my bad, got confused. I mean, Refresh Tree would be a *new* thing right, it doesn't exists right now? Only rebuild tree, right?
(so refresh tree would not get all branches closed as rebuild tree does?)

Exactly! The tree will only be changed where it does not match reality. It's already done, and I'll upload it in a few minutes. 8)
