I know there have been other posts requesting different back-button behaviors, and one of them is mine. But this is different. I've tried for months to make sense of XY's logic when it comes to back button behavior, but I can't seem to grasp it.
I jump among dozens of directories throughout the day, probably 50 or more. I understand that the back button does not simply jump up to the current folder's parent -- I believe what it's trying to do is move to the folder I was previously in. But it does neither. Clicking the back button repeatedly moves me back through a history of previously visited folders, in an order that seems to have no rhyme or reason. It is neither the forward or reverse order in which I visited them; I honestly don't know what it's thinking.
Many times I'll be in Folder A, then enter it's child folder, Folder B. Then jump to some upper-level folder, Folder C. Hitting the back button, I would expect to go back to Folder B, then back again to Folder A. But in most cases, I'm going somewhere like Folder D, which I visited well before Folder A, then Folder A, or maybe Folder C. It is seemingly random and extremely frustrating.
Anyone else having this issue? The back button is my most used function of XY.

Maybe something to do with your settings?
What are your settings for "History without duplicates" and "History per tab" in Configuration| General?

And, to exclude any issue with the mouse: Do you get the same behavior when you use Alt+Left (or the toolbar button Back) for going back?
