Column #'ing

In the 'Raw View' there are options for Hex,wrap and Line #.

What would be kinda cool, is a 'column #'. I work a lot with flat files, and where the data starts and stops, in the columns is important to me, if there was a way to visually show by alternating the colors for each column, with # on the top of the display would be pretty helpful.
