Is there a way to auto-magically sort the catalog items alphabetially?

No. Was never wished and never implemented.

Could we get this feature in the next release? Would like to see an option to have items in the Catalog automatically sorted.

Catalog 2.0 will happen only after the whole current roadmap is behind us...
