Hi Folks,
I couldn't get XY (or the command-line, for that matter) to correctly open an image file in the SnagIt Editor.
It turns out the solution is easier than I thought (and some of you might already know the solution), but I wanted to post it here so that others might benefit from it. In fact, the solution is likely to be beneficial with other programs as well.
I originally was trying (from the command-line) to open an image in the SnagIt Editor using the command:
"<path to snagit>\Snagiteditor.exe" <filename>
and it just wouldn't work -- the editor would open, but with the last-used image file rather than the one I specified. The solution in this case is twofold: quote the filename AND use the full pathname! Simple, but it's the first command-line program I've used in a long time that REQUIRED quotes in all cases AND a full pathname -- quotes are more understandable (though usually only needed if it includes spaces), but usually a program accepts just the filename if the file is located in the current directory.
So, in any case, the solution for the CKS is to create an item under the "Open With" category with the "Application" line being:
"<path to snagit>\snagitEditor.exe" "<items>"
and you should be all set... The only thing I didn't have was the quotes around <items>, but that seems to make all the difference! (I said it was simple!)
Then you can just assign whatever keystroke suits you, and you're good to go!
By the way, if you're using an older version of SnagIt, you won't have the SnagitEditor.exe file, but can use Snagit32.exe (though you might need to use the /OE option before "<items>" to get it to work).
Hopefully this will be useful for someone else.
Enjoy!
andy
