Is there any way to have files and folders that I extract from an archive to appear at the end of the file list in list mode, rather than immediately be sorted into the preexisting list of files and folders?
I've experimented with the auto refresh options and the resort list after rename option, but haven't figured out a way, yet.
I apologize if this has been asked and answered, but I wasn't able to find the solution, if it exists. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!montalban wrote:I apologize if this has been asked and answered, but I wasn't able to find the solution, if it exists. Thanks.
No need to apologize as the nbr of possible places that info may be is quite vast...and I'm even having a bit of trouble myself finding it.
One thread that I found was this: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2505
which isn't very positive...and it ties back to this thread:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... 069&p=8417
So far, I've not found any updates that say this mode is available yet...if it is, I can't think of it...maybe Don will give the definite answer?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Wow! I totally see why this is so important. Unfortunately seems like its not easy to implement (atleast from what Don last said). And too bad that last two people who asked for "lazy sort" never returned. I hope you are not the third one.

Lazy Sort is on my list but with low prio. It's also technically a bit difficult. lt me ask: What are the conditions for Lazy Sort: When should it happen and when not?

Re: Extracted files at end of list?
For my own needs I'm mostly concerned with files extracted from an archive. I haven't used dual panes much yet, but I also could see it being useful for me when moving files between panes. I use folders with a lot of different image files within them, and while it's not hard to find the sorted individual files after an extraction, it's much more time consuming, especially when they aren't necissarily grouped together.admin wrote:Lazy Sort is on my list but with low prio. I'm only just beginning to experiment with different file managers, since I really dislike the Vista explorer after using XP systems for many years. So far XYplorer is my favorite of those I've tried, though this one issue is keeping me from fully committing to it. Well, that and the lack of an undo, though that seems to be a fairly common absence in many of the managers I've tested to this point. I saw that that's on your list of possible future upgrades.
Thanks for the fast responses, everyone.

And when you drop files from one pane (or tab) to the other, would you (or anybody here) also expect lazy sort?montalban wrote:For my own needs I'm mostly concerned with files extracted from an archive. ...

Re: Extracted files at end of list?
I would not, if Lazy Sort isn't enabled and Auto-refresh on file operations is not ticked. Windows Explorer in Vista has lazy sort, but it is absent in Win 7, can't remember about XP. However, if we are to get Lazy Sort, improvements should also be made to current sorting mechanism. This http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3418 in particular.admin wrote:And when you drop files from one pane (or tab) to the other, would you (or anybody here) also expect lazy sort?

Not exactly what you want, but just an idea for a sort of work round.montalban wrote:Is there any way to have files and folders that I extract from an archive to appear at the end of the file list in list mode, rather than immediately be sorted into the preexisting list of files and folders?
Turn on sticky selection.
Select all.
Now perform the download / un-Zip.
Invert selection
Only the added files will be selected.
You can do it without sticky selection, but using sticky avoids the possibility of accidentally loosing the entire selection.
A Visual filter setting to show only selected files (or non-selected files) would make it even better.
Tags is possibly another way of achieving a similar effect of distinguishing the download / un-Zip files.
