Sticky selection TB button
Sticky selection sounds like a nice feature, but one that would be even better/easier to use - I would think - if it could be switched on&off in a single click on a TB button...

Nope, but I'm really not good at that, so I'd much rather let that whole artistic/creative side to you...admin wrote:Definitely! Any idea for an icon?

Very nice. And just because that option is found under List Style, I'd suggest adding all those options to the button's context menu?admin wrote:Done.

Code: Select all
v8.10.0005 - 2009-07-05 12:33
+ Menu View | List Style: Added option "Sticky Selection". This is a
selection style known from many apps with multiple selection lists.
The effect is pretty much identical to holding the CTRL key while
you click on an item or hit the space key on the focused item:
The previous selections are not touched and the current item's
selection state toggles. Also clicking on the white space will not
unselect the selected items.
Sticky Selection is obviously very practical when you work on long
lists and want to pick out particular items manually: You won't
easily lose your work by the slip of a finger.
Tip: To unselect all items using the mouse start a drag-select
(hold mouse button down and drag a bit), or use Deselect All
(Ctrl+Shift+A).
Note that you won't have the "Rename On Slow Double-Click"
functionality when "Sticky Selection" is active.
Note that obviously "Sticky Selection" will only come to effect
when "Multiple Select" is on (which no known user ever turned
off).

Re: Sticky selection TB button
Does it really make sense for this to be a list style and not just a global mode and thus in the Edit->Selection... section?admin wrote:Predictable wish.jacky wrote:Very nice. Personally, I don't think I'd ever want that tied to the FVS. I see myself more likely turning it on, selecting files, and then turning it off, but not something I'd want automatically enabled for certain paths.
Also, shouldn't using the dragging rectangle to select files also be sticky?

Re: Sticky selection TB button
But then we would not have the List Style context menu on the TB button which is really nice.TheQwerty wrote:Does it really make sense for this to be a list style and not just a global mode and thus in the Edit->Selection... section?admin wrote:Predictable wish.jacky wrote:Very nice. Re: Sticky selection TB button
Yes, probably does as much as some other settings found there, some of them being selection ones as well, e.g. Multiple Select, to some extent Full Row Select...TheQwerty wrote:Does it really make sense for this to be a list style and not just a global mode and thus in the Edit->Selection... section?
Except that under Edit are no options, but actions (Select All/None/Invert/Filter...), whereas List Style as some actual options, like Sticky Selection. So it does seem to make sense, doesn't it?TheQwerty wrote:No, we'd have the selection options which would be just as nice!
Probably. However right now a click on a blank/empty area on List (with Sticky Selection) does not deselect, so starting to draw a rectangle selection seems to be the only way (by mouse, and except for using menus of course) to unselect/drop the current selection. I'm not sure if this is the expected behavior or not ?TheQwerty wrote:Also, shouldn't using the dragging rectangle to select files also be sticky?
I would say that I'd expect Sticky to pretty much prevent me from holding Ctrl, but behave the same. So a single click on a blank area should unselect, while drawing a rectangle should not and also be part of the "sticky selecting" process.

I'm not sure either what is expected here. Today I will release the beast to the public and hopefully get some feedback from the sticky selectors...jacky wrote:Probably. BTW, Ctrl+Click on blank area does not deselect in my version of XY...
