Programmable Tabs (constant search tabs)

Post by jsglazer »

Pardon me if there is a way to do this and I just haven't figured it out yet...in fact, feel free to let me know.
Would like to be able to set a tab to always show search results, for example, all files created, modified, or accessed w/in X days, etc. I've tried to 'Lock' search tabs but it doesn't work. Having a tab that only runs a custom search/script is the trick.

thanks,
Josh

in the "Find Files" tab there is another tab-list with one called "Options". There you can set the option "Search results to" to "Search results tab" which should be what you want.

That could be part of it, but based on when jsglazer joined forum, I suspect that he may want multiple open search tabs instead.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Actually you are both right. The "Search Results Tab" answers the mail for displaying all files Modified in the last two days. After renaming the locked Search tab to "Modified" I can repeat the process to create an "Accessed" tab, etc. However, would be nice to script this custom search creation in case I nuke my carefully created Search tabs--which will happen eventually. Is this scriptable?

Josh,

the way you described in your first post is the correct way to do it: Do a search, lock the results tab, done. This tab will be there to repeat your search until you intentionally delete it. I wonder what went wrong in your case.

A special case is when you have ticked Info Panel Find Files / Options / Search Results to "Search Results" tab. Then you have to duplicate the Search Results tab in order to have your search locked in a tab that will not be overwritten by the next search. To duplicate the locked Search Results tab you do Open New Tab while it is selected; this will clone the Search Results tab. However, the cloned tab will not be called "Search Results", and it will not be locked (Actually i wonder if this is good!? It would be less confusing to make a perfect clone, right?. So you have to lock it manually (Lock Location) and you can give it a name (Rename Tab...).

BTW, I just noted that there are two bugs here!
(1) When cloning the "Search Results" tab (or any finding tab), the cloned tab will not have the "Find" icon. Fixed in next BETA.
(2) Under certain circumstances, when selecting a finding tab other than the "Search Results" tab, a "Search Results" will be auto-created. Fixed in next BETA.
