Rename tab & Navigation

Post by Plastic »

Hello everyone !

I like the "Rename tab" because it helps a lot clarifying the UI when you have very long path.
However, when navigating in a renamed tab, the caption of the tab do not change, and some times I don't know anymore where I am.

What I would like is that the rename tab remember its original location and append the subfolder path to it.
Like :
Location -> Caption
c:\Work\Projet1\Test -> [Projet1 TEST]
c:\Work\Projet1\Test\Lot1 -> [Projet1 TEST]\Lot1

Obviously this would only work in the renamed tab and not any others.

What I am not sure is how to handle a parent location like :
c:\Work\Projet1 -> [Projet1 TEST]\..

but I think it looks a bit ugly.
Maybe there is a better way ?

Regards !

Interesting idea. I have no time for it now though.

What do others think? I personally use named tabs only locked, so I always know where they point to.

BTW, do you know that NTFS offers you a way to "rename" any given path as a virtual drive? That would have exactly the effect you want, but system wide... Look for SUBST...

I thought someone had already asked for this, but i am not sure. I would find this useful as i have couple of renamed tabs and knowing the latest subfolder would be good (ofcourse i also refer to AB). Also, i can rename my desktop to say "Desk" to make use of flexible width feature.

Code: Select all

* Configuration | Tabs | Flexible width for named tabs: Now, it's
      experimentally done for all tabs, not just named tabs. It might be
      even good that way...
Yes it is good, I have more space on my tab bar now. :D.

I like it, too. So I will rename "Flexible width for named tabs" to "Flexible width"! :)

Yes, that should do.
