few wished

Post by lastnikita »

Hi, just downloaded this awesome product (great work!), however there are a few things which confuse me..

I tried to search a bit but I'm not comfortable with keywords for my request, sorry if I'm missing something obvious (or not) !

First of all, is there any way to change language ? It's not that I don't understand english, but context menu items are not placed the same way depending on language used and it's very disturbing (to copy/paste as an example).

When I use the file list to browse to a directory, or when I click a tab, the left column (folder browser) won't follow & expand (move to) the current folder.

When a new file is beeing created (copied/moved in or created by 3rd party app), the list get resorted automatically. I prefer keep that new file at the bottom to locate it more quickly and easily.

Now I wonder how much time I'd lose learning all of its so useful functions, and how much time it would save me :D

Thank you for your answers !

Hi and welcome to the XY world!

I'm somewhat busy with another task here but just wanted to give you a quick reply...

No, unfortunately XY doesn't support any other native languages than English, at least as far as built-in language choices, as other apps often have, as you may have noticed the lack of lang prompt at install.

Also: I'd first suggest you review the pages in the XY web site, such as http://www.xyplorer.com/tour/index.php and also look at the great wiki at http://www.xyplorer.com/xywiki.htm

Addendum: re list/tree --- look at options in lower left of General tab in Config --- there are 2-3 that relate to this.

Addendum #2: re sort of list --- I found this thread http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2545 but I don't recall if there has been any update to that situation...sorry!

This thread also came up in my search: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3007
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Hey thanks for your fast answers :)

May I suggest a workaround ?
When we right-click a file/folder, system context menu is called with native language.
But when we click in an empty space in the filelist, XY context menu is called, in english.
I wish system context menu was called in that situation too, is that possible ?

I did and will look further later, very interesting.

No, sorry they're not about this problem..

Does not look so, I've upped the topic, thanks again :)

Welcome to XY!

OK, i guess you are referring to the tree here. First, make sure from menu "View" that "Lock Tree" is unchecked. Next, go to the "General" section inside configuration (menu "Tools>Configuration>general") and make sure the "Expand destination node in tree" is checked. Thats should do what you are asking for.

In Configuration>Advanced section, uncheck "Auto-refresh on file system changes". Another related option is to uncheck "Resort list immediately after rename" in General section

After you learn these little thingsyou will be amazed how much you can save with XY. Happy exploring.

Ok, then I guess I didn't fully understand your initial post...because under my current setup, when I switch tabs, the tree jumps and follows...and if I click on the "+" in tree, it expands...so could you retry explaining it? Thanks!

And when I answered before, I was listening to Leo Laporte at http://twit.tv and watching TV at same time, so was a bit more distracted...

That did the trick.. can't remember me locking it btw !
I'm not used to XY yet so the grayed panel didn't  me !

Yes, I guess I will buy it next week, since I work A LOT with explorer it will be a killer app for me ! I just wish those points will be solved at some time, they're no major problems but it's always cool to get the perfect product :)

Should I raise a new topic for that feature request ?
Maybe it's doomed in the middle of that conversation right now..

Cheers mates

What are you exactly looking for in the system's context menu (except undo)? XY has more or less the same options. If you are more specific we can help.

system menu uses native OS language (french for me), while XY's one uses english.
it's disturbing when you do file/folder operations because items aren't located at the same place, due to the language different alphabetical order..

(a) User-defined menus are possible using scripting.
(b) In a future version we will get custom event actions.

The combination of (a) and (b) will make it possible to create user-defined context menus in any language!

Cool :)
Looks a bit complex to fill my needs, but hopefully someone will take care of the job before I do :D

Thank you for your work

Ah yes, I forgot:
(c) In a future version we will get "snippets". Which means that someone else can take care of the job for you! :D

For a few days i search for an option
to get the "New"-item of the explorer/system context menu
to create new documents from my installed apps, like an "Excel"-file.

OEA_ListRightClickOnWhite=1 didn't help here.

Can i get this menu item in some way?
Or did i have to fill the 'NewItems'-folder?

Yes, you have to fill "New Items" folder. For example add empty document file inside this and it will show up in the context menu. And there is not limit to what you can add.

@Don:
1) is it possible to add some default stuff like office doument, bitmap etc here?
2) Was there a way to add separators?
