Focus rectangle showing up despite being turned off

Post by o7blue »

1: XYplorer 28.30.2701 64bit
2: Windows 10
3: 100% Screen Scaling

Right off the bat, I cannot reproduce this in a fresh instance. This is only happening on my existing install, so I imagine the issue stems from my config, but I'm not sure what specifically could be causing it.
I noticed that after turning off the focus rectangle, the first item after navigating into a directory will have the focus rectangle on it regardless (that is to say the focus rectangle appears before I even click the item, it appears immediately after navigating into the folder):

Clipboard-20260918-01.png
This focus rectangle will go away if:
- I click on the desktop and back on xy
- I click on the other pane, and then back on the original pane
- I open up the settings window with F9

Here's the thumbs section of my ini in case it's relevant:

Are there any other parts of my XYplorer.ini I can provide to help troubleshoot this? This issue is really weird, when clicking off a selected item the focus rectangle doesn't show up. The focus rectangle only shows up when navigating into, or out of a directory (at least as far as I can tell). And so far it's only ever been the first item (folder or file).

Strange, cannot reproduce. Does it also happen when you set Configuration | Colors and Styles | Highlights & Dark Mode | Selections to "XYplorer Style"?

Yup, it's the same behavior on XYplorer Style selected.
Hm, I guess I might just back up my configuration and recreate it from scratch. Clearly this is something specific to my environment. Is there a recommended way to clear out my user configuration?

Not so fast! If you like you can send your XYplorer.ini to me for testing.

Sure thing, I attached my XYplorer.ini and took out the [Register] section from the top (but that's the only modification I made to it)

PS- And now I see the version the program updates from is actually saved here, wish I knew this when I reported the multiline caption ellipsis problem

Could it be that your "Focus rectangle" is just the outline of a folder thumbnail (and that it disappears on hover is a drawing glitch that needs a fix)? Turn off folder thumbnails and try again.

Ok, some interesting results- when Configuration | Preview | Thumbnails | Show folder thumbnails is unchecked, the focus rectangle stops appearing over folders. It still appears over image files in either case.

Show folder thumbnails ON
1.png
2.png
Show folder thumbnails OFF
3.png
4.png
There's also weird behavior when copying an image. I selected the image, ctrl+c, ctrl+v, it dropped the copy into the folder and selected it, and when I clicked in the empty space to deselect it, the focus rectangle appeared:
when copying.png
Lastly, I normally don't have 'highlight on hover' enabled, but when I enabled it and passed over the item with the focus rectangle it did indeed clear it. On both folders and images.

It does only happen in thumbnails views?

Yes, just double checked and in the details view the focus rectangle never shows up when disabled. Seems this is exclusive to thumbnails view.

I just found something else, this issue ONLY happens in dark mode. In light mode everything is ok.
I actually renamed my XYplorer64 folder so it wouldn't get picked up, got a fresh instance and started to configure it one element at a time (thinking I might as well try it, restoring from the backup is easy after all). I'm glad I started off with turning on dark mode, didn't even take a minute for the issue to appear. So now I can say that this IS reproducible in a fresh instance. At least on my machine

Again, the state of the thumbnails immediately after opening a folder:
