Hi all, and happy new year !
Never used paper folders much but decided to give it a try » pretty powerful.
I have a problem/question though :
When renaming a file inside a paper folder, the actual file is renamed » good
but the file disappears from the paper folder » not so good !
I think I understand why, but shouldn't renaming a file in a paper folder from within update the file in the paper folder too ?
Sorry I haven't updated my signature ... using XY 27.20.0900

Re: Renaming file in Paper Folder
This is already supported. You have two options:
1) Right-click the Paper Folders toolbar button and uncheck "Explicit Save Only".
2) Keep and checked and actively Save the Paper Folder after the rename happened.
Note that the item will not disappear from the PF if you check "Allow Zombies".

@highend :
Thank you ! your answer's gone but the idea was good and not that difficult to script : it works great !
It makes a paper folder act differently from an 'normal' folder, though.
@admin :
"Explicit Save Only" is already unchecked

Re: Renaming file in Paper Folder
You say the file disappears from the paper folder by itself right after rename? I can't see this here.

Re: Renaming file in Paper Folder
Just to make sure, I ticked and unticked "Explicit Save Only".
Retried renaming a file in the paper folder : the original file is renamed and the "paper folder file" disappears.
I can't explain better, sorry.
Edit:
I tried in a fresh instance and the file stayed in the paper folder... until I refreshed it.
For some reason Suspend Auto-Refresh can't be unticked in this instance.

Re: Renaming file in Paper Folder
I agree that something can and should be improved here: If "Explicit Save Only" is off, then renaming a file in a PF should immediately update the PF in memory (and mark it dirty so that the change will be saved to file later).

Re: Renaming file in Paper Folder
It would be great if the renaming from within the paper folder would rename both the real file and the PF entry.
Thx

For me, not a good idea.Daniel0312 wrote: ↑12 Jan 2026 15:41 It would be great if the renaming from within the paper folder would rename both the real file and the PF entry.

From a programming view, the whole paper folder file has to be rewritten
and this changes the date of it.
I like to know when a paper folder was created.
